I think it would pass, considering how much they used to cost back in the day—it's not like $433 it’s some huge mistake. It's more likely they just forgot to hike up the prices 😁

It is truly a dismal state of affairs when your graphics card finally gives up the ghost, leaving you with no choice but to scavenge the used market—where you will most likely end up with some relic used for crypto mining. It feels as though manufacturers have lost all incentive to develop fresh hardware; instead, they simply repackage aging components and funnel them toward miners, since very few people outside of that niche seem to have any interest in buying anything else. I would even venture to bet that a significant portion of this entire situation has been orchestrated and pushed to manipulate consumers into abandoning the PC platform in favor of consoles, a transition I personally could never bring myself to make.

Here's the deal: crypto mining is notoriously unpredictable. It just had this massive explosion recently, which sent GPU demand through the roof, far beyond what anyone anticipated. It reminds me of how AMD overproduced GPUs back around 2014; when the mining craze suddenly cooled off, they were stuck dumping inventory at massive discounts left over from the surge.

Jen-Hsun Huang, the CEO of NVIDIA

Nvidia Quote : Strong demand in the cryptocurrency market exceeded our expectations. Cryptocurrency mining accounted for a higher percentage of revenue than the previous quarter. Keep in mind that’s very difficult for us to quantify down to the end customers view. Our main focus remains on our core market, as cryptocurrency will likely remain volatile.

The reality is that a miner looks at those inflated prices differently than a gamer does. To a miner, a high price tag is just a business expense that eventually pays itself off through profit. For a gamer, buying hardware at those rates is nothing more than a pure loss.

So, one guy just got his GPU delivered via PCE according to $777. You’ve just gotta be quick about it

ASUS Expedition GeForce GTX 1070 - $1.50

It’s definitely not the ultimate steal, but I guess it’s pretty reasonable for this era 😁

GTX 1070 is sitting between $42 and $45 right now...give it six months and maybe prices will actually start looking normal again☕

Looking at the PCE data, it’s clear there's a massive surge in people offloading everything from full mining rigs to individual GPUs. That said, prices haven't really stabilized yet. It'll likely take a few months before we see things actually return to a normal baseline.

Timothy Kim60 said:I've been checking the eBay listings and yeah, you could call it mass scale—they're dumping mining rigs and individual GPUs everywhere. Prices aren't even sane yet, though. Should level out in a few months once things settle down.

I won't even have access to the marketplace there until June.😢

Well, that's just how their rules work.

Look, I'm telling you the prices aren't great; there's just a massive surplus right now. They've finally started hitting the market, so maybe things will balance out eventually.

I don't see these cards ever being worth the money because the markup is just insane... honestly, these greedy companies are out of control. As if they didn't screw everyone over during the mining craze, now they're trying to flip them for what they paid years ago 😵 (like an RX 480 4GB going for $300-$350 with maybe 6 months of warranty left)

I was watching this video where they argue (Wendell and guys like him) that price hikes aren't being driven by individuals picking up 4, 5, or even 6 GPUs at a time, but rather by massive corporations snapping up batches of 1,000, 5,000, or even 15,000 units at once.

I'm gonna start a riot over there.😬 🍿

Pure logic there...☕

The only silver lining might be that with used card prices being this insane globally, they probably won't be able to wreck the market for new cards coming out over the next couple of years. At least not on the scale we saw after the last big crypto craze back in the R290 days.🕺

That is precisely the case. Just a few months ago, a major Russian bank publicly admitted to sweeping up almost the entire available stock of graphics cards across Europe—likely tens of thousands, if not significantly more. They claimed the move was simply intended for testing purposes and to get a better feel for the crypto landscape.
