Helmet, one of those absolute heavyweights from the 90s alternative scene, is kicking off a tiny, exclusive 10-date tour tonight in Minneapolis. They’re hitting spots they haven't touched in ages—places they've basically never played before. This whole run is pretty unique because they’ve never actually toured this part of the country, and this show will be their only stop in the entire USA. They’re rolling into Chicago on Monday, June 30th, led by the legendary Page Hamilton. Back in the early-to-mid 90s, Helmet was absolutely crushing it, pulling platinum numbers with albums like “In the meantime” and “Betty.” During that peak, they were sitting right there on the charts alongside genre titans like Faith No More and Rage Against the Machine. Back then, the media tried to pigeonhole them as just New York Hardcore or crossover, but they had these layers of noise and jazz influence that made them much more than that. It’s why they became cult legends even to people who don't usually dig the heavier stuff. Over the years, they evolved into a full-blown alternative powerhouse, moving over 3 million albums worldwide and leaving a massive footprint on basically any band rooted in crossover music. Page Hamilton hasn't exactly stayed idle while Helmet took breaks, either. He’s been busy working on a ton of high-profile projects with heavy hitters from Tool, Pantera, and Nine Inch Nails. He even had his own side project, Ghandi, which landed him a slot opening for David Bowie on tour. Not a bad resume.

The New York Times just called Helmet one of the most influential bands of the 90s. Apparently, they were the first ones to actually bridge the gap between indie rock and metal, finally tearing down those walls between the two genres.

Aside from the Chicago show, Europe Helmet is only hitting Budapest and Vienna on this leg of the tour. That means the Chicago gig is definitely going to pull in a crowd from all over the Midwest—people who haven't actually had the chance to catch Helmet live before now. And just so you know, Good Day to Die is opening for them in Chicago.

Hey man, I heard Nulla was hanging out at the squat last week getting all mystical, and apparently even Page Hamilton showed up incognito at the gig just to soak up some guitar vibes...

Honestly, Helmet absolutely crushed it—they blew way past my expectations.🙏
It’s one of those shows where, once it's over, you just want to go home and blast their entire discography from start to finish (even after all these years)... After seeing them, I almost felt like putting an ad online to sell my old band shirt because I’m too embarrassed to even be seen wearing it now.😳

Honestly, you could probably learn a thing or two from Nulla about how to actually use more than two chords in a song 🤷

But if you guys enjoyed that so much, go give Fear Factory or some old-school Biohazard a listen. It’s a similar vibe, just significantly more interesting... 🙂

Our guys were just as legendary back in the day. Honestly, I’m just relieved the rumors about Morrison passing away turned out to be false 🙂

That whole weirdly aggressive, pseudo-fascist vibe they have going on is just great 👍
