Antidepressants: General Discussion

Guys, I really need some help here....
My boyfriend was prescribed Remeron for depression about a month ago. After reading up on it and hearing stories about how these meds can actually do more harm than good or lead to dependency, I wasn't comfortable with him taking it, so he hasn't been using it. But honestly, nothing else seems to be touching this depression—which, to be fair, stems from years of dealing with chronic health issues. If anyone here knows anything about this or has been through something similar, please leave some advice. I’m feeling pretty stuck and could really use some guidance.

My energy is shot, things are "complicated" right now—so is it really normal for me to be bouncing around like a clown? It feels more natural to just settle down a bit until the situation stabilizes. I shouldn't just go slamming my head against a wall like: 🙂
If I viewed my current state as some kind of clinical illness, then sure, I’d need medication. But I don't see it that way; it's a perfectly logical reaction to going through a divorce and dealing with financial chaos... stuff like that. I definitely feel unsettled, frustrated, and I'm pissed off at a lot of things (the banks, for instance). This discomfort is ugly, nasty, and bitter, but I think I can manage it. As they say, "business isn't blooming," but things will turn around eventually—maybe by the year 2099...

Is it actually safe to mix antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds with supplements containing grapefruit extract and garlic? (Not trying to pitch anything, lol). I was thinking about using the second one to help fight off some Candida.

Grapefruit is notorious for messing with a huge range of medications in certain people. It can really throw things out of whack.🧐

You might want to look into a different way to tackle that Candida instead.😉

I’m feeling a little bit lost here. I just saw my doctor, and she told me I could totally mix grapefruit into my routine with escitalopramum because apparently, grapefruit itself has these antidepressant-like qualities. I don't even need my anti-anxiety meds anymore, and I'm actually in the process of tapering off the antidepressant mentioned above. I really want to shake this Candida once and for all since it's been a nightmare (just a mountain of scary diagnoses and two rounds of antibiotics that did absolutely nothing), and I heard that the Candea culture was super effective. That said, I've seen plenty of warnings online about grapefruit interacting badly with certain medications.

If anyone has dealt with something similar, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Is there any way to pick up antidepressants or anxiolytics over the counter in places like Mexico, Panama, or maybe even Canada, specifically ones that actually require a prescription here in the States? I’m not looking for herbal supplements or anything like that... just the actual meds. Does anyone know which ones are available without a script in those countries, and what kind of damage we're talking about regarding the price?

Look, I’m no medical expert—definitely not my field—but I don't think there's any connection there. You should be perfectly fine taking the antibiotic they prescribed (assuming, of course, they actually know what other meds you're already on).
I'm currently on Odonazin, and back when my doctor put me on Klavocin a few weeks ago, she told me straight up that one didn't affect the other. Then again, those aren't the exact same drugs you're dealing with, so... who knows?

Of course you can.
That said, if the goal is actual sedation, you're better off sticking with Xanax, Helex, or Misar; they're essentially all the same medication anyway.

It is certainly possible. There are plenty of psychiatrists out there who prescribe two, sometimes even three, different antidepressants simultaneously. In this specific scenario, one would take Fevarin at night because it tends to be sedating and aids sleep, whereas Zoloft acts more like an "uplifter," making it better suited for the morning hours.

Thanks. I started out on just Fevarin, but now I'm finishing up with Zoloft and Olandix. Honestly, Olandix doesn't sit right with me at all—it leaves me feeling totally numb, and it's been giving me heart palpitations...

Otherwise, this combination makes absolutely zero sense because both drugs are SSRIs.
They have essentially the same mechanism of action. It’s like taking two different ACE inhibitors, say Lisinopril and Benazepril; it’s redundant and pointless, even if I have seen doctors pull stunts like that before.
