Lisa Morgan27 said:So what, am I supposed to go in there and demand they ditch the Zoloft entirely just to swap it for some other antidepressant?

Look, just let the psychiatrist do their job. Honestly, prescribing two different meds from the same class is actually pretty standard in psychopharmacology. Sure, both Zoloft and Fevarin are SSRIs, but they don't have identical pharmacodynamic profiles—meaning they don't hit the exact same way. That’s just a clinical fact, whether she thinks it makes sense or not.

Look, I’ve never personally touched an antidepressant in my life, so please don't take me as some kind of medical authority—I'm completely out of my element here. But I am curious about a few things. Does anyone know roughly what the price tag looks like for these? How effective are they actually supposed to be, and... well, what's the deal with side effects? Are they as bad as people say?

Antidepressants aren't some casual multivitamin you just pick up off the shelf at a drugstore; they require a prescription for a reason, and you shouldn't be playing around with them lightly.
The side effects can be pretty nasty, too.

If you're looking for something more natural, St. John's Wort is an option. Maybe give that a shot instead.

I’m taking Calixta (45 mg), but honestly, it isn't doing much for me. Still, I can't seem to get any sleep without it. I was wondering if it would actually work well if I combined it with Zoloft, since that's the one that always worked best for me.
I'm also using Rivotril alongside the Calixta. Thanks in advance for the help.👍

So, for those of you who aren't on a daily prescription but need something to take the edge off during those high-stress shifts at work... what are you all reaching for? I'm looking for ways to actually unwind without feeling totally wiped out. I read somewhere that certain herbal stuff—like St. John's Wort—can make you super sensitive to sunlight, and my job keeps me outdoors way too much for that kind of risk... any suggestions?

So, what do you guys who aren't on daily meds take when things get crazy at work? Just looking for something to help me unwind... I'm trying to find alternatives to St. John's Wort—I read somewhere that you shouldn't be out in the sun while taking it, and my job keeps me outdoors way too much for that kind of risk...

I read somewhere that you shouldn't go out in the sun after taking it, and my job requires me to be outdoors pretty often.

A good starting point would be something like a 5 mg normabel.👍 I went down a much deeper rabbit hole myself, so I'm on much stronger doses of Rivotril. Just like any sedative, the rule is you shouldn't take them every single day if you want to avoid building up a tolerance.

Susan Diaz91 said:Since I lost my baby about 20 days ago, my doctor put me on normabel at 5 milligrams, three times a day.

I'm actually pretty scared to take them... worried about getting hooked. The label says they can be addictive.

Has anyone here ever used these? What has your experience been like with antidepressants, normabel, Xanax, or anything similar?

Just to clarify, normabel and Xanax (diazepam) aren't actually antidepressants... they're anxiolytics—basically sedatives. They're meant to be short-term fixes to help dial down the anxiety (which, given what you're going through, makes sense). And yeah, if you take them consistently every single day for a month, they definitely cause dependency. As the anxiety starts to lift, you should start tapering off the dose or just take one whenever you really need it...

Sorry for bumping this thread, but I’m 30 and just saw a psychiatrist for the first time on my own accord. My depression, stress, and anxiety are really starting to mess with my day-to-day life—it's making it incredibly hard to stay productive. That’s a huge issue for me since I’m self-employed, so having my motivation and drive intact is pretty much everything.

To be honest, I was really hoping to find some kind of talk therapy, because it feels more like I need to work on myself than fix a "disease," if that makes sense. But the psychiatrist told me they don't offer therapy there because of the patient volume, and apparently, there aren't any private therapists or specialists available in town either. I did some reading afterward, though, and it seems like treating depression usually involves meds *plus* mandatory therapy... so does that mean I'm only getting half the treatment?

He prescribed me Lexapro—starting at 5mg for the first week, then moving up to 10mg,
and also pregabalin capsules at 75mg, one in the morning and one at night.

Regarding the first one, he claims it’s a newer antidepressant that won't cause addiction or drowsiness and basically has no side effects. Honestly, that sounds a little too much like a sketchy commercial to me, so I was wondering what you guys think about this medication and his description of it?
It sounds almost too good to be true, and I’m completely new to all of this.

Hello everyone,
Has anyone here dealt with sudden weight gain—say, 15 pounds in just three months—while on antidepressants?
I’m currently taking Lexapro, which I was told wouldn't cause weight issues since it's part of a newer generation of medication.
I understand that people might see some fluctuation when starting a regimen, but 15 pounds in ninety days? Is that even remotely normal?
Would any of you consider tapering off your medication if you feel like absolutely nothing you've tried over the last year and a half has actually worked?
I am reaching a point of genuine desperation because the bloating won't subside and I have no idea what is causing it.
The only variable that has changed in my life is this antidepressant.
Since I have a month-long trip planned for this coming Saturday, I would truly appreciate any advice on how I should handle this.

I have already gone through the motions of getting my thyroid and ovaries checked, and everything came back perfectly fine.

I’m currently on Trintellix, and they always tell you it shouldn't cause weight issues since it's considered a newer generation drug.
I get that people might put on a little weight at first, but 30 pounds in three months? It feels extreme.
Would you guys even consider tapering off if you feel like absolutely none of the meds you've tried over the last year and a half have actually helped?
I'm honestly feeling pretty desperate because I'm constantly bloating and I just can't figure out why.
The only thing that changed recently was starting this specific med.
Since I'm heading out on a month-long trip this Saturday, I'd really appreciate any advice on what I should do.

I don't think this thread gets much attention, so you might have better luck over on this one—it seems to cover the same stuff, just more active:
