AMC Theatres in San Francisco

So, I heard there’s plans to open an AMC Theatres over in a small town near San Francisco. Does anyone have the scoop on this?

No clue. Honestly, just being on Broadway is enough for me.

That’s news to me, I suppose.
But honestly, I don't think we need any more theaters in this small town. Even the ones we currently have seem to be struggling with pretty low attendance numbers.

Where am I supposed to find that? I actually went down to the AMC Theatres to grab some free tickets, and they told me no. Besides, aren't you keeping up with the NEWSPAPERS?

You might have a point. Maybe we should just build an AMC Theatres while we're at it. We've got Broadway now, and everyone flocks there, leaving places like the local Regal or Cinemark to rot. Even if we did build one, it wouldn't help. People would just split between the two until everything fails. We aren't some massive metropolis like New York City; we’re just a small town of 250,000. Even NYC has too many people... especially with all the foreign investment lately.

There are other plans in the works too. They want to build near those small towns out by the outskirts, or maybe near that patch of weeds where the clinic stands... which they'll probably tear down anyway. But even those projects seem doomed...

Honestly, Broadway just isn't running the way it should, and frankly, I'm done with it. I refuse to just throw my money down the drain... everything around here stays trendy for maybe a month or two before the hype dies and it's just gone. 👎

There won't be any love seats in small towns, just love seats at AMC Theatres

I'm hearing about AMC Theatres coming to our neck of the woods for the first time, but honestly? I wouldn't hold my breath. Like someone said, once the initial hype dies down, people here just get bored and move on. And if they try to jack up the prices like they do at Las Vegas over on Broadway, where a ticket is at least $10 and you're paying fifteen bucks for a tiny bucket of popcorn and a soda... man, Maria Nelson46, give me a break.

If you've ever been to an AMC Theatres in New York City, you'd know it’s totally worth grabbing the combo deal (XL popcorn + soda = $5.00).

Broadway is fine enough—the theater itself is decent. I haven't checked the popcorn prices, but the place is practically a ghost town. 😢

It depends. When I saw 10000 BC at Broadway during a 9:00 PM showing, the house was sold out. Now, for Iron Man at 3:00 PM? There were six people there besides myself.

I don't know about that. I wouldn't say Broadway is a ghost town. I hit the theater every week and the seats are usually packed.

Well, I guess it really depends on how busy they are... I’ve seen it all, from being absolutely packed with hits during prime time to being a total ghost town when they show those niche titles at 10:30 PM....

Now, look, I have no clue what their actual margins look like, how their books are balanced, or if they can even manage to rent out empty halls when foot traffic is low, but you’d hope they did their homework before dropping all that capital—that’s just common sense, right?

All in all, I’m pretty fond of the Broadway theater. I love the vibe, their popcorn is definitely better in my opinion, the seats are more comfortable, there are way more showtimes, and booking a ticket is just seamless... sure, it costs a few extra bucks depending on the movie or the day, but honestly, I don't mind paying the premium. Personally, I think more people in San Francisco and the surrounding area are hitting the theaters now than back when Screen Co. was the only game in town. If the same movie is playing at both Broadway and Central, I’ll head over to Central—mostly out of nostalgia or because the bus routes are easier....

I don't think anyone should go under; there's enough room for everyone to thrive, even with the business disaster over at the Boardwalk.

Maybe I missed the peak hours—like Friday or Saturday nights. Usually, I stick to weekdays.

But regarding the theater itself? Everything is fine. The seating, the sound quality... it’s all solid. It’s a nice, well-maintained facility.
