So, what exactly is this HLA testing all about? My immunologist/rheumatologist ordered it, but honestly, everyone I’ve asked seems just as clueless as I am. I don't even have an appointment at the lab until March. Could someone please break this down for me? Based on everything else I've been through so far with my recent tests, it's looking more and more like I might have Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Regarding HLA typing—from what I understand—they’re basically checking if you carry certain HLA alleles. In the case of rheumatoid arthritis, they tend to be quite specific about things like HLA-DR4 and HLA-DR1; essentially, if you have those particular alleles on your sixth chromosome, you're more predisposed to developing RA...
maybe someone with a bit more expertise can jump in and elaborate, but that’s the gist of it for starters.
