How to cut out commercials from a movie?

Does anyone happen to have a recommendation for software to crop out commercials from a movie?

Hey man, could you give me a bit more detail? What kind of ads are we talking about—you mean those trailers at the start of a clip? If that’s what you mean, you can handle that with basically any video editing software. Some of the ones that tend to hog resources are Adobe Premiere Pro or Pinnacle.

If you're looking for something straightforward for MPEG, you could try Handbrake or maybe even Adobe Premiere Pro
As for AVI files, there's always free VirtualDub

Just pull that movie into Adobe Premiere Pro... you'll be able to trim out everything you don't want there. You just need to convert the file into a format that Adobe Premiere Pro can actually read first.

If you're working with an actual original DVD, honestly, the easiest and fastest way to go is using Handbrake. You just grab the main movie file and boom—all those pesky ads, director commentaries, language menus, and extra fluff just vanish into thin air.

The situation here is actually a bit different because I'm dealing with a file captured via a TV tuner card...

Use VirtualDub
open the file
drag the playhead to the start of the commercial
go to EDIT -> set Selection Start
move it to the end of the commercial
hit EDIT -> set Selection end
then just go to EDIT -> Cut
set Video -> Direct Stream Copy
set Audio -> Direct Stream Copy
hit File -> Save Avi
that should do the trick, I guess

Just throwing this here so I don't clutter things up with a whole new thread.
Does anyone know which program would be best if I wanted to, I don't know, extract a specific clip from a video? I'm not looking to delete anything, I actually want to keep that little segment for itself, if that makes sense. Thanks.

guys, I seriously need some help here. I’m trying to record stuff using my TV tuner card, but I can't get the file size right. I'm aiming for something around 800 or 900 MB, but instead, everything keeps saving in MPG format and hitting like 3.5 GB per file. Any tips?
