Alright, look... I’m trying to drop about 10 pounds, so give me your best shot on what I should do. I have this frustrating metabolism where I lose weight fast if I try, but I eat a ton and gain it right back just as quickly. My weight fluctuates like crazy from week to week—up 6 pounds one week, down 6 the next. One day my favorite jeans fit perfectly, and five days later, I can't even get the button closed. You get the idea.
The real issue is me; I have this absolute obsession where I have to have something sweet after lunch—usually bread with jam and butter. It's a total compulsion.
Just to give you an idea, here is everything I've eaten today up until 2:00 PM:

Milk and cereal—that's my standard start, always hoping it'll stop me from overeating later.
An apple and a fruit yogurt.
Soup, beef, and rice.
Two slices of toast with butter and honey, plus another slice with jam.
Five pancakes with jam, followed by a little fruit yogurt.

I wouldn't say I'm overweight or anything where I desperately need a massive diet; I just want to shed those last 10 pounds to get lean. The problem is how I keep sabotaging myself. When I actually commit to eating right and decide to go for a run every single day while keeping my meals clean, I'll drop 6 pounds almost instantly. The catch? That motivation only lasts about a week before I fall off the wagon again.
So, help me get my act together. Tell me exactly what to do, and I promise I'll stick to it. Just keep in mind that since it's winter here, I can't really run outside much. We get these brutal windstorms that make the air so cold I end up winded immediately, and I'm constantly catching colds because of it.
Come on, be smart about this and help me out!

I find myself grappling with this exact issue. While I wouldn't call myself overweight, I do carry a few extra pounds. I simply cannot resist the urge to snack; my appetite often gets the better of me. For instance, I might maintain a disciplined, healthy diet for three days, only to spend the following three days overindulging in sweets without any sense of restraint. It feels as though the struggle has become psychological in nature, though I cannot say for certain.

I don't know what the issue is, but if I keep going like this... I'll be begging for help. I need to drop 50 pounds, and I just won't do it!!

I’m in the exact same boat. I was watching Oprah earlier today, and she made a point about how if you just stick to milk and cereal for breakfast, you'll be starving within an hour. It provides zero sustained energy. You need foods packed with fiber—I can't recall the specific list right now, though. Personally, I’ve decided to cut out bread and anything sugary altogether. I've been following a blood type diet, which suggests that flour and bread products are my biggest triggers for weight gain. I also make sure not to eat dinner at all. And definitely get some kind of workout in, maybe aerobics or Tae Bo. Good luck 😉

I wouldn't call myself fat, so I don't need a massive diet. I just want to shed those 5 pounds to get lean. The problem is I keep procrastinating on eating right. Be smart about this and give me some advice!

Believe me, you can run through a storm if you actually have the willpower. Honestly, I'm jealous of your appetite. As for losing weight, head over to the Fitness and Recreation subforum. It's just a few clicks away.

You claim that running is always an option if you just have the willpower... but honestly, think about that for a second. When a massive Nor'easter is blowing through and the wind is absolutely relentless, I try to go out for a run and it just tosses me around. I'm sprinting, yet I feel like I'm running in place, completely winded, while that freezing air slams into my lungs and leaves me gasping for breath. You see? Willpower alone isn't enough to overcome the elements.

Alright, let's take it from the top...

There’s actually a massive, ongoing thread over in the Fitness and Recreation sub-forum titled "How to Lose the Belly." I’d suggest you head over there and get started.

Just looking at what you ate today—those breakfast cereals aren't necessarily bad, provided they're actual old-fashioned oats. We're not talking about that sugary Kellogg's junk you find in the cereal aisle. If you hit up a place like Whole Foods or even just a decent Kroger, look for plain rolled oats. They aren't exactly a gourmet treat—you can toss in a tiny bit of cocoa powder if you're feeling fancy, but seriously, just a hint—but they'll actually keep you full for a good while. Also, you really need to cut out the bread. And I don't mean just skipping the spreads; I mean ditching the bread entirely. Pancakes too. If you feel like you absolutely can't live without something sweet, maybe just have a single square of dark chocolate after dinner. It's a process, one step at a time. And, obviously, regular cardio is a given. Don't get me wrong, you can do sit-ups all day, but those won't burn the fat off your midsection; they just build muscle under the layer you're trying to lose.

To recap: go to the Fitness and Recreation section, find the "How to Lose the Belly" thread.
