Best music editing software?

I was wondering if anyone might be able to point me toward a free music editing program. I have been using Audacity, but since it is just a trial version, it expires after thirty days; I am looking for something that remains free indefinitely.

Honestly, I think Adobe Audition is the gold standard... plus, you can pretty easily track down a version and a key online if you know where to look. If you really need help finding something, shoot me an email and I can walk you through it.

Well, I guess it really depends on how you actually want to work with the audio... because honestly, programs like Cubase, Adobe Audition, WaveLab, or even Traktor DJ all do completely different things and have totally different capabilities.

If we are discussing the nuances of music production, audio editing, or the complexities of recording, then one must inevitably turn to either Audacity or Adobe Audition; there really isn't a third option worth considering, is there?

If someone doesn't know how to actually leverage what a program can do, they’re better off sticking to something basic—though I highly doubt any actual professional would be using that level of simplicity.

Honestly, just give Audacity a spin first; I have a feeling it’ll do exactly what you need it to do.

Audacity is actually a fantastic little piece of software from back in the day—it’s incredibly intuitive and just runs so smoothly on almost any machine.

But, if you're looking to really dive into the deep end and take your production seriously, you really ought to be looking at either Pro Tools or Logic Pro, of course. 😁

I personally find myself working quite frequently with Adobe Audition and Audacity, though I must say that Ableton Live and even FL Studio are also rather excellent tools when you need to handle those final touches or simply want to import and export your tracks!

And which one is actually free?
Audacity offers a trial period... if there happens to be a version that is completely free, that would be great. Otherwise, could someone please tell me how much Adobe Audition costs and where I might be able to pick up a license in Chicago?
