I’m basically just here because I need some help from you guys. So, whenever I’m playing Call of Duty: Battlefield, my CPU fan starts making this absolutely horrendous noise... it's driving me crazy. I heard somewhere that you can use something like Core Temp or maybe some other controller software to fix it so things run normally again, but I have no clue which one would actually work for me. Any ideas?

I if I actually picked it up, would it be easy to install? Also, is it gonna be super loud when I'm gaming, especially since my CPU is hitting 87°C from overheating?

I mean, you clearly didn't seat it right if those temps are that high. Even with that thing, it probably shouldn't be hitting over 70 or 80 max, I guess.

So I’ve got this Speccy program running, right? And whenever I close out of a game and pull it up, the temps jump from 87°C down to 65°C, then eventually settle around 48°C... and then it just stays there. Doesn't budge. I was wondering though, if things actually hit 100°C, what happens to the processor? Like, would it just totally die on me?

It wouldn't just crash; the computer would simply shut itself down to protect the processor. It is definitely not a good idea to let temperatures climb all the way to 100°C.

You can easily drop your CPU temperatures just by picking up an aftermarket cooler—usually around $100 to $50—but honestly, my real concern is the cooling setup on your GPU. If I remember correctly, you're running that specific Nvidia model, which is a prime example of where the thermal design falls short. You really should have opted for something with a more robust heatsink solution, like the models from MSI, Dell, or HP...

If you don't plan on swapping out that graphics card in the next year or two, and you're still planning on pushing high-end gaming, then you'll pretty quickly realize exactly what I'm talking about...

Who on earth would sell you such a high-end processor paired with such a subpar motherboard, all while neglecting to include a decent heatsink? Honestly, that kind of setup feels borderline criminal. 😁

Zachary Smith2 said:Just wanted to drop a quick note to say I finally put this rig together. Here's what I've got under the hood:
1. MSI MAG B550
2. 500GB Toshiba HDD
3. 2x4GB 1600mhz
4. NVIDIA GTX 750 Ti
5. Intel Core i5-3470 3.60GHZ X4
6. Standard Power Supply

I just finished getting Windows 10 Pro set up and I'm sitting at the desktop right now. I'm gonna try installing Call of Duty: Battlefield later on... hopefully this thing can actually handle it. I'll let you guys know how the graphics look on max settings once I get it running.

Also, could someone maybe explain how SLI/Crossfire works? I'm a bit lost there.

🤷
Man, this setup is honestly kind of rough, first off, why on earth didn't you grab a card with GDDR5 memory instead? And that power supply... wtf????? How many watts are we even talking about here? Seriously...🙂

Graphics Card: 🙂

So, I basically just told the guys at the repair shop how much power I wanted, and they went ahead and sold me this whole set of parts. I guess I don't really get which components need to play nice together, so I just let the pros handle it... and here we are. In maybe a year or so, I'll probably be able to swing a new Graphics Card with DDR5 memory. I'm still trying to figure out which motherboard would actually work with this processor without making everything overheat, though. I ended up paying $132 for the motherboard.

It's pretty straightforward: if they just "fixed" it at the repair shop, take it right back there and tell them it's overheating. They definitely botched something somewhere.

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking too, but honestly, I'm kind of tripping about getting it back if I take it in... I opened up the case and that sticker peeled off just a tiny bit. You know any good way to stick it back down without making a mess?
And are you actually sure I need to drop it off? Maybe the overheating thing is just normal since I've been playing such heavy games lately. I guess.

He’s acting clueless, claiming only the 😁
came loose.
That overheating definitely isn't right; it's supposed to handle heavy gaming, and the cooling system was built specifically for that. Don't let them play you, especially since you already dropped the cash on it.

Oh, I found something else too. Every time I fire up Skype, my screen flickers for a second and then my CPU temp just spikes straight up to 78°C... is that even normal? I tried taking the fan off to check if the processor was seated right, but I couldn't even get it loose because it feels stuck. Maybe the thermal paste melted or something and turned into glue?

Of course it’s stuck; you have to apply a bit of force. I assume you at least unlatched the side clips first... Anyway, just take it into the service center so they can look at it. If you keep messing with it, you're probably going to snap something.

Exactly, just force it on them if you have to, snap the damn thing, and then say goodbye to your warranty
