If you actually went through that thread I linked and still can't find your answer, let me break it down for you: the moderators pick the veteran mods. Some of the basic requirements are that they’ve been on Reddit for at least six months or more—that's just the baseline—and they usually need a solid 500 posts under their belt, though obviously, a high post count doesn't always mean someone's actually worth reading...😁
Then, they have to actually stand out from the rest of the crowd. They shouldn't be constantly picking fights, they need to know how to hold a civilized debate, and they definitely can't have any bans on their record for the heavy stuff, like hate speech or being straight-up abusive to other users...
Basically, they just can't be a headache.
Look, there isn't a way around it: someone else has to nominate you. You can't just throw your own hat in the ring. 🙂
