The first installment in this revenge trilogy.

The others in the series are Oldboy and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance.

It’s about this deaf and mute young guy trying to save his sister, who desperately needs a kidney transplant.
I’d go into more detail, but I don't want to drop any spoilers.

This movie is brutally good.😎

I haven’t actually sat down to watch that specific part of the trilogy yet. Is it even remotely on the same level as the other two?

By the way—could you please put any SPOILERS in white text? You almost gave the entire plot away to me there.

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance might just be the best installment in the trilogy (it’s certainly my personal favorite).

You haven't even seen the movie, you're just reciting the plot to me 🙄

Just watch it first, then tell me what I actually meant by that sentence 😬

Look, the movie is legit. It’s got everything—funny moments, sad ones, touching stuff, and plenty of violence.

It's a must-watch, seriously. 👍

I saw you starting to spoil the plot, so I didn't want to waste my time reading any further. 😉

To me, Lady Vengeance is easily the best of the bunch.

Man, I honestly thought I was watching Lady Vengeance—it took me like, half the entire movie to finally realize I had the wrong one on 🙈>

But hey, the cinematography is 😍 pretty incredible, actually... just really solid stuff 😍

Just finished watching Oldboy, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance—man, that Lady twist at the end was wild.

Oldboy is such a killer movie.
I only brought it up because it’s missing from the list, and it's part of that trilogy, after all.😬

Mark Johnson5, you seriously need to watch it so I can drop more spoilers.😎

Jesse Ortiz4 said:Mark Johnson5, go ahead and look at me—I’m practically begging you to drop more spoilers! 😎

I honestly don't think I'll be getting to it anytime soon. I just added about thirty movies to my Netflix queue, so once I power through those,
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance
is next on my list. 🙂Go right ahead and spoil it, but please—just give us a heads-up first so we know what's coming.

...the main thing is just to mark your spoilers so people who haven't seen it yet don't get ruined; so, either write SPOILER before you dive into whatever you want to say, or just hide the whole mess in white text 🙂

...Jesse Ortiz4, you were given clear instructions on how to write here—either tag your spoilers or I’m going to start doing it for you, and you'll be the one facing the consequences since you were already warned 🙂. I'm deleting this spam, and I'm asking nicely: please stop flooding the thread 🙂

Chill out, Mark Johnson5, for real.
We need some independent board or an oversight committee to step in and decide if that was actually a spoiler 😬

It wasn't a spoiler.

Get lost, somewhere between the letters P and R.

...look, I'm just giving a friendly heads-up here 🙂

...anyway, enough of that—let's talk about the movie. It’s actually a solid movie 😉

The movie is excellent. I checked out Oldboy after watching Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, and honestly, the latter is much better. It’s everything—the cinematography, the acting, the actual narrative. Oldboy felt a bit overdone to me; the acting didn't quite land, and the plot felt overly complicated without really going anywhere. Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance is definitely worth a watch if you get the chance.

Samuel Smith5 said:I found Oldboy to be a bit overblown; the plot is just too convoluted and lacks any real sense.

Convoluted? In what way?

SPOILER

Basically, he accidentally causes a girl's death, her brother spends the whole movie getting revenge on him, and once he realizes they were actually even on the same side, he kills himself.

spoiler:
I mean, keeping someone in agony for fifteen years only to let them destroy their own daughter just because they confessed to sleeping with their sister? If you ask me, that’s a bit much. It’s true that the protagonist admitted he messed up big time with the main villain, and there's that whole metaphor about how a grain of sand and a heavy stone sink at the exact same rate in water. What it’s trying to get at is that a tiny mistake can carry just as much weight as some massive, catastrophic evil.

Honestly, those movies that rely on a huge twist at the end just don't hit the same way they used to. They're starting to lose their edge for me.

Oldboy was adapted from a manga, which explains why the plot feels a bit over the top.

Samuel Smith5 said:And honestly, I’m finding that movies relying on a big twist at the end just don't impress me much more and more these days.

I was never particularly blown away by twists myself, especially when they serve as the entire foundation for the story—think *The Usual Suspects* or *Se7en*. And when a director uses a gimmick just to try and elevate a mediocre movie? Well, look at something like *Saw*... it's a bit cheap.

As for the ending of *Oldboy*, I didn't even perceive it as a twist.

I honestly can't say I saw that ending coming. I wasn't bracing myself for a massive twist like that, which is probably why it hit me so hard.

@goldenhound32/">@@goldenhound32 (regarding that other thread) — look, I know you didn't actually use the word "animal," and I clearly wasn't reading your post closely enough before I rushed into writing my previous response 😳 — my apologies.
