Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)

What’s the deal when you see elevated ketones and hemoglobin on a urinalysis? I just got my results back, and I have to wait until Tuesday to actually sit down with my doctor. I honestly don't know if I can hold out that long... Does this point toward something totally harmless, like a minor inflammation or something else? Or should I be worried?

Ketones in your urine? Yeah, that can happen. But hemoglobin? You might actually be thinking of red blood cells.

Seeing ketones in your urine isn't exactly standard, and usually, we associate that with folks managing diabetes. Honestly though, it's probably best not to play doctor on an internet forum—your primary care physician is going to be much better equipped to give you the real deal.

The same goes for red blood cells; they shouldn't really be showing up there either, though they could pop up because of something like a UTI or maybe some kidney stones. Still, you really need someone who sees your whole medical history to give you a straight answer.
