Man, what's the deal? This guy was just trying to put food on the table and buy books for his kids. If people actually spoke up and reported things every week, maybe they’d finally think twice about what they're doing. But instead, he'll just fade into obscurity and nobody will even care.

Kudos to them. I still find it hard to believe that at least one person in this country is actually going to face consequences for bribery. Then again, who knows how things will play out? They might just conclude that "nobody is responsible" for the kickbacks, for all we know. Hopefully, though, this serves as a wake-up call for any other doctors taking bribes—they might actually think twice before doing it again. It’s disgusting. Truly shameful for those who actually work with integrity.

Would you report someone if they asked you for a bribe?

Looking at this from the outside—thankfully, I’ve never been in that spot myself—it's complicated. In the end, the father of the woman reporting the surgeon is about to undergo surgery, and she just "saved" $5,000.
And most importantly, someone might finally be held accountable (fingers crossed).

They’re saying if you report it, they'll let you get treated abroad, but I can't help wondering where exactly: I mean, is Mexico even considered "abroad"?
What do the doctors on this forum think about this situation?

I mean, I was honestly ready to head straight to the police station... I probably would've even shown up to the hand-off with a voice recorder tucked in my bag, just in case.

San Francisco might be able to hold its own for a little while, but honestly, they could probably forget about cardiac surgery altogether after a certain point. If anyone out there wants to actually perform heart surgery, they’re going to have to head over to Washington, D.C. It’s a bummer, really.

I mean, seriously... over at Rib, you’ve still got the one and only, the true "Mr. 5000," Dr. Johnson, holding things down. They caught him red-handed once too, but somehow everything just got swept under the rug and left to gather dust...
I'm just saying, as far as I know, there isn't a single cardiac surgeon in San Francisco who actually knows how to handle a heart surgery with total authority. Oggy and a few of those other American surgeons won't let anyone even get close to their level, let alone share what they know. I guess they're just guarding their little "exclusives," if you ask me...

If there’s any justice left in this world, they'll be stuck planting tomatoes on their own time now.

By then, it was an open secret that there was a sort of unofficial "price list" involved—one that didn't carry any of the taxes he used to deal with back in Germany.

And where is her dad even supposed to go for surgery now? Like, will he actually get seen in a timely manner, or is he just stuck on a two-year waiting list and left to whatever happens?

Honestly, anyone else stuck waiting should probably just reach out to the Department of Health—since they've been letting this slide for years—and maybe ask their preferred providers why things are so slow, though I suppose you could just head over to Xavier 200a and find out for yourself.

Honestly, anyone still sitting around politely asking the Department of Health for help—after they've spent years turning a blind eye to this exact mess—should just forget about it. Don't even bother coming back to those specific providers. Just head straight over to Xavier 200a and ask them why the wait times are so damn long.

And I bet they'll be more than happy to give us the "official" price list for cutting in line, right? <Is it five grand, or did they just not hand over enough cash?
