The Ultimate Showdown: E. T. vs. The Thing (Vol. 21)

E. T. Steven Spielberg’s E.T. was a massive box office hit, but John Carpenter unfortunately had the misfortune of releasing The Thing at the exact same time. It tanked because audiences weren't exactly in the mood for terrifying aliens right after seeing E.T... Times have changed since then, though. If you were heading to the theater today, which of these two would you pick?

The Thing is easily one of my all-time favorite films...

Does anyone have a copy of The Thing on DVD I could borrow? It’s been forever since I watched it, but I still vividly remember all that snow. E. T. is better for kids, but The Thing is definitely for the older crowd.

Soon enough, the Catatonic Front will arrive—and just like that, the balance shifts. 😬

In that scenario, I’d go with E. T.—because if he actually called home, those guys would just show up and shove a probe right up the creation's backside.
