I’ve been scouring the forums, but apparently, there isn’t a single thread dedicated to this movie 😕

It's playing at the local AMC right now, and honestly, I stumbled upon it by total accident—I am still absolutely reeling from the experience! It's one of those intense "docudramas" about two climbers who set out back in '85 to conquer a massive Summit in the Andes... can you even imagine? What they went through during that week sounds like something straight out of a fever dream, yet everything about it is completely true 😲

Seriously, why on earth hasn't this film gotten more hype?

I found that third guy in the base camp particularly unsettling... honestly, I think there’s something seriously wrong with him... I’d heard rumors about someone calling out into the night, but I didn't really believe it was actually him. Is he even alive?👍

All I know is that if I were in Joe's shoes, I would have called it quits the very second I tumbled into that crevice...

And honestly, it is easily one of the best movies out right now 👍 damn right!

That's why I can't help but wonder—and honestly, it breaks my heart—why something this incredible might just fly under the radar 😢

I'm not entirely sure why there's such a huge push for everyone to go see this movie... I mean, it's definitely a good one... but I guess everything is pretty much available to everyone these days anyway...

If you look at it from that perspective, though, why on earth would it be so important to sit down and watch Brokeback Mountain?

He isn't getting much buzz right now—there was some chatter back in November 😁 when he showed up at that film showcase over in Times Square

I was actually bracing myself for some nauseating scenes, but it’s surprisingly easy to watch. It doesn't go overboard.
Plus, there's a happy ending.

So, my buddy sent me this movie a few days after that last post, but I just couldn't get around to watching it 😢.

And honestly, I still hadn't seen it until today. Finally made it over to the KIC to check it out and: OH MY GOD!!!!

1) What absolute psychos!!!!!!
2) What total freaking lunatics!
3) After everything they went through, they're actually heading back to the mountains? I could never do that—mountains aren't really my thing—but if something like that ever happened to me, I’d move somewhere totally FLAT, zero hills, just pure heat. Like the Sahara. The Sahara Center. -> Actually, wait, that's a bad idea. Dehydration risk!!! Maybe somewhere near an oasis 🙂

Great Movie, incredible story, just absolutely mind-blowing. They say if some screenwriter pitched this, nobody would believe them, but man, this was intense!

Man, I feel terrible for missing out on this discussion earlier. If I’d had any clue this movie even existed, I would’ve been right here jumping into the fray from day one. As a huge movie buff, it honestly feels like a massive personal fail that I didn't hear a peep about this masterpiece until it aired on network TV the other night.

To try and make it up to you guys, I actually started a new thread over on a US film forum
I've already watched the movie three times now—it's easily one of the most fascinating things I've seen in years.

Interesting watch. That guy's willpower was unreal. Apparently, some people back in the States were complaining about the second guy cutting the rope 😕 I honestly thought he’d just abandon him the moment his leg snapped. And that third one? Total psycho. 😁

I’m even following all the news updates from Joe.

There's actually a new documentary out featuring Joe right now.
The Beckoning Silence

I'm trying to track down the soundtrack for Touching the Void, but man, it's proving to be a bit of a hunt. I won't give up though. I've got a collection of about 700 soundtracks at home, and plenty of them are super rare, so I'm not stopping until this one is sitting on my shelf. 🙂

The third guy is a legend; he went up that mountain with them knowing essentially nothing more than "Joe and Simon"—he didn't even know their last names—just knowing they'd all be waiting for him at the base. 🙏 😕

The film itself is excellent. It’s been a long time since a movie gripped me like that and kept my undivided attention from start to finish... a true triumph of the human spirit.

Here’s some more news regarding the sequel to "Touching The Void." This new doc featuring Joe is called The Beckoning Silence, and it actually just aired on Channel 4 over in the UK.

09:44 GMT ~ 21 March 2007 Darlow Smithson Productions has been commissioned by Channel 4 in the U.K. to produce The Beckoning Silence, a 90-minute drama-documentary special based on mountain climber Joe Simpson’s best-selling book of the same name.

The Beckoning Silence is duo for delivery this August. Shot in HD, the project is being produced and directed by Louis Osmond, the Academy Award-winning director behind Darlow Smithson’s recent theatrical hit, Deep Water.

The film—which serves as the follow-up to Darlow Smithson’s Academy Award-winning Touching The Void—tracks Simpson's journey to the treacherous North face of the Eiger. That mountain is legendary for being a killer, having claimed over 60 lives, and it’s been obsessed with him since he was just a kid. While there, he’s dealing with all those creeping doubts and fears that come when a climber starts hitting the twilight of their career. In the middle of all that, he uncovers a tragedy from the 1930s—one that shares some pretty eerie similarities with his own nightmare accident in the Andes. Filming on the North face of the Eiger began two days ago. Distribution will be handled by Channel 4 International.

John Smithson, the chief Creative director of Darlow Smithson Productions, said: “Joe Simpson is an extraordinary man who has experienced unimaginable challenges, achievements and tragedy. One of the best documentaries I’ve ever watched. That sheer will to survive—hats off to him. It was shot brilliantly, too; kept me on edge and completely hooked the entire time. One line specifically stuck with me when he was crawling with a broken leg, describing how imposing those mountains looked. Something like: "it was like somebody was just teasing an ant, putting always something in its way, and was eventually gonna stand on it." Absolutely perfect.

I actually lost it during the Boney M scene. 😬

What the hell is up with that guy waiting down below? Is he a little gay for Simon? First, he claims he'd rather Simon come back if one of them has to die, then he wants to move out immediately. He wouldn't even respond to Simpson's calls because he thought it was a ghost, wtf?🤣

It’s an excellent documentary. If you want something similar based on a true story, check out North Face. In Touching The Void, Simpson mentions a book regarding Tonio Kurtz, if you recall—well, that movie is about him.👍
