Bob Fett said:Boring? Well, that’s subjective...

Personally, I thought so.

Bob Fett said:A plot? Is that a requirement for a good movie?

Nobody said it was... just saying there wasn't much of one here.

Bob Fett said:The acting? If this isn't top-tier acting, I don't know what is.

Haha...

Bob Fett said:So, there are objective facts about a film, and then there's whether you like it or not.

Alright, enlighten us... what would be "objective" about this movie?

Bob Fett said:I don't like The Police.

Uhm... well, like the title of this thread says, we're talking about cult classics here.

That's all...

To movie Naked Lunch didn't exactly blow me away.
Honestly, I’ll probably give it another shot down the road. Maybe I just wasn't in the right headspace for it at the time...

Actually, I can. It doesn't bother me one bit.

Honestly, Raging Bull, The Deer Hunter, Spirited Away, and 2001: A Space Odyssey are all just painfully boring movies to me.

I’m with you on everything except Raging Bull. That one was top-tier for me! It’s out on DVD now at the local video store; I seriously can't wait to grab it and watch it again.

Honestly, I think Erica Jong nailed the explanation better than anyone else:

"It was based on the idea that all a man had to do was put his penis down a woman's throat and thrust and the woman was as satisfied as the man. Well, guess what?"

Jesus, if this isn't a totally missed mark of a critique, then I don't know what is!

Look, Deep Throat is—wait for it—a porn movie! Its entire purpose was just to pull a dick out of some guy's pants and cash from the viewer's wallet. Trying to write an "artistic critique" about it requires some serious mental gymnastics, doesn't it?

The whole massive fuss surrounding the film only happened because, at that specific moment in history, a few Americans in certain cultural circles decided they were too embarrassed to admit they were watching porn unless they could find "something more" in it. The first one they stumbled upon was Deep Throat, which is basically built on the ridiculous premise of a girl born with a clitoris in her throat instead of between her legs. It's a porn comedy. (And a pretty terrible comedy and a really bad porn flick at that, especially since the lead actress isn't exactly easy on the eyes, BTW.)

Man, Erica Jong must have been having a really rough day. I guess zip was closed.

Zeljkoo said:Now that I really think about it, I mostly just watch movies I actually enjoy... which means pretty much everything listed in this thread.

Emmanuel... is that even considered "cult"? Seriously, I don't think I've ever seen such pathetic trash in my entire life.

😠

I am totally with you on that! Honestly, the absolute worst thing is when some adult film director tries to get all deep and philosophical on you. If we’re going to mix genres, wouldn't it be way better if a real philosopher decided to take a crack at making porn instead? haha!

Or she simply ran out of batteries...

P.S. Come on, grow up already and realize that men aren't strictly necessary for women to experience loud, explosive orgasms. As for "slapping the tonsils" (with a penis), I'll pass this time... it's just tacky.

I'm with you there. There's nothing quite like porn with "artistic pretensions." 🙂

But I can't sign off on "2001: A Space Odyssey"... though I totally get where you're coming from. One critic described it perfectly as "hypnotically boring." You just have to be in exactly the right headspace to let it "hypnotize" you.
That one five (or maybe ten?) minute scene of some shuttle drifting through space with the Earth in the background could easily compete for both the most boring and the best scenes ever made at the same time. Pure genius.

Ethan Perez97 said:Easy Rider

It’s just far too hippie for my taste, not to mention how incredibly dull and mindless it feels...

🙄
Well, if you find it too hippie, that's certainly your prerogative,
but I would love to hear you explain why you found it so utterly mindless...

The movie is really a product of its era, and those psychedelic shots at the cemetery are truly priceless, plus I think the film works beautifully as a critique of the American society and establishment of that time... 👋

Go ahead, if you find it too "hippie" for your taste, fine...
but why don't you actually explain why it's supposedly so stupid?

A movie is a product of its era. Those tripod shots in the cemetery are incredibly well done. Plus, the film works perfectly as a critique of the American society and establishment of that time—and even today. 👋

I never cared for Hopper as a director, nor his films for that matter. And since I absolutely despise those hypocritical hippie bastards from the bottom of my soul, it should be obvious why I can't stand this movie. The 60s sucked...👎 plus I don't do drugs, so maybe that’s why I don't like it; you can only really appreciate this film if you're on some kind of acid trip... not to mention how boring the soundtrack is.

I'm not usually this vulgar... 😁

And when you combine that with how much I absolutely despise those hypocritical hippie types, it becomes pretty obvious why I can't stand that film. The 60s were just a mess... 👎 plus, I'm not even on drugs, so maybe that's why it doesn't work for me; you almost have to be tripping on acid to enjoy a movie like that... not to mention the soundtrack was incredibly dull.

I don't usually use such colorful language... 😁

Ha, ha, ha, ha, .... How many hippies have you actually crossed paths with to feel this much animosity toward them?

On a different note, you did a lovely job explaining why it's just so incredibly mindless.

Oh dear, I just realized I'm quoting such an unruly youngster...

I suppose your absolute favorite movie must be Raven, then?

Blade Runner. I just don't get it 😕 Makar even Harrison Ford is a total actor I can't stand, so maybe that's why...

On a different note, your breakdown of just how "stupid" things were was actually quite spot on.

Ugh, I just realized I'm wasting my breath quoting some bratty kid.

What, is Raven your favorite movie or something?

I actually find metalheads more tolerable than hippies, so you can imagine the level of disdain I feel.

Yeah, that movie was so mindless it was physically painful to sit through.

Quoting a rude little kid who the mods have had to shut down multiple times... obviously, I'm aiming at the film moderator. 🙂

If we're being serious though, my favorite film is probably The Deer Hunter... 🙂
