Could someone please weigh in from a medical perspective regarding how much damage those antiperspirant deodorants—the ones designed specifically to stop you from sweating entirely—can actually do to the body?

Thanks so much!

Look, from where I stand, sweating isn't just some random inconvenience; it serves a critical, vital biological purpose. Trying to stop yourself from sweating is actually counterproductive and shouldn't be encouraged at all.

Sweating—it's all about thermoregulation.

We sweat across our entire skin surface...

Antiperspirants would only be dangerous if we were slathering them over our whole bodies (and even then, only if they actually worked 100% 😉). But used locally? They don't mess with the body's ability to regulate heat, they just block the flow in those specific spots where you put them.

We sweat all over our skin, after all.

Antiperspirants would really only be a concern if we were slathering them over our entire bodies—and even then, only if they were somehow 100% effective 😉. As it stands, when you apply them locally, they don't interfere with your body's ability to regulate temperature; they just block things up in those specific spots where you put them.

It’s honestly a relief to hear that—I tend to deal with some pretty intense underarm sweating myself.

But I’ve heard these rumors that deodorants actually clog your pores
right there in the skin, which supposedly creates a risk for developing cancer!

I’m really hoping that theory doesn't hold any water.

Thanks!
