He’s overrated in every sense of the word, not just according to the critics. Dustin Hoffman, despite being a bit hammy at times, is a far superior actor from that generation and school of acting.

Maybe they aren't actually overrated so much as they just aggressively forced themselves into being the default standards for acting skill.

But honestly, I immediately start thinking about those old detective shows I love binge-watching instead...

The heavy hitters from their generation; Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins, Rutger Hauer, Bruno Ganz, Jeremy Irons

The legends from the older crowd; Paul Newman, Lee Marvin, Marlon Brando, Richard Burton

And the slightly younger icons; Gary Oldman, Tim Roth, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Spacey

From this duo, maybe Al Pacino actually makes the cut, mostly because of his eyes and the fact that he usually picks more dignified roles—though, let's be real, he starred in that absolute disaster 'Gigli,' which is enough to discredit him for the rest of his life.😁
