Dirty Old Festival - Kansas City, July 15th & 16th

Hey guys, this damn rain has been coming down non-stop for a week now, and it looks like it’s sticking around all through Friday... might finally clear up by Saturday.
I was checking the forecast for Seattle and honestly, everything is just going to be a total muddy mess. It’s gonna be soaked, but let's just hope it doesn't completely ruin our plans... heh...🙂

We could just roll around in the mud! And if we want to spice things up during the day, we can host some mud wrestling matches—everyone against everyone. The grand prize would obviously be free sodas for all the winner's buddies and the champ themselves, plus a consolation prize of cheese and pepper sandwiches for everyone else! Yay! 😂

So, here are my latest impressions and fascinations...

I have to point out that the Department of Finance is clearly turning into a bigger circus year after year. And just to be clear, I’m not trying to romanticize the whole circus concept here—so don't go looking for any negative undertones. Ugh, I'm overcomplicating things already...
Anyway, the highlight of the night: I got to meet Stress and Kevin Chavez!!! 🙂 (With a little help from the perceptive guidance and hope of Galatea, who used to hang out on these forums back in the day) ...who, as I type this, are probably sleeping somewhere in the cargo hold of some shady time machine (presumably together 😁 ). My take? Stress has the kind of smile that could light up an invention by Thomas Edison, and Kevin Chavez is so mild-mannered, blissful, and likable that he needs to be stripped of his moderator status immediately. As he is, he can't project any actual authority or deal with the unpleasant haters 🙂 Although he did demonstrate a certain level of annoying consistency and integrity by making fun of my Nick Cave badges! 🙂 Damn that Jam! 😛
But, I'll forgive his "exclusivity" because he was smiling so brightly, subconsciously gravitating toward my charismatic, charitable presence 🙂
Aside from Stress and Kevin Chavez at the Department of Finance, there was also the ballet troupe The Ramones performing their stage-experimental cantata
My only regret is that despite all of Wrong's "detailed" descriptions, I didn't manage to catch Crew Jane 😢

Musically speaking, the festival wasn't exactly thrilling. I don't really recall Friday (just remember seeing the Atheists and The Ramones). On Saturday, my highlights were Against Me! and that sort of thing.

The rest of the story is actually great. Two wonderful days—we had a lovely home (thanks Stress—though it could have used a gazebo, but whatever) and in those two days, we made a massive jump on the social ladder from trailer trash to a Beverly Hills mansion 😬 and, yeah, it was good.

Oh, and the music girls on this forum definitely have a thing for people with questionable backgrounds 😬 😁

I heard the gear completely fried, so the DJs were forced to spin from just a single turntable😁and apparently, nobody even raised an objection😁

No idea. I didn't crash until 4 AM on Friday and then 3 AM on Saturday, so I didn't catch a glimpse of the girls. Honestly, I didn't even miss them.

The only issue was the music between sets on Saturday—it was abysmal. Just Green Day (only the last album) and Bon Jovi played in these lounge versions (C), which is all Kevin Chavez's fault.😬

Oh, and Stress was playing Dylan’s gospel stuff in my car, of course 😁 and it absolutely kicked ass.

I am... defeated!🙂

On Saturday, I didn't roll in until about 10:30 PM, right in the middle of all that lightning and thunder 😎 and spent some time keeping a low profile under a pink umbrella 😳

Too bad I didn't run into Kevin Chavez again so I could brag to him in the rain about my laminated Calexico Wrong this one's for u np cards 😁

Man, what a paradise. Honestly, it was one of the best weekends I've had in ages. It was a blast—lots of laughs, though I did take a massive hit when it came to seeing Against Me! (who were about as good as, I don't know, Rancid). thanks Pygmalion for the gifts, and thanks to everyone else for the booze that I definitely couldn't afford to buy for myself the next day... and shout out to Dinsdale for poking fun at my sensitive soul. 😁 We need more weekends like this.

And those guys... the Germans were actually pretty great 🙂 and that one guy had an awesome shirt 🙂

Good grief... my shirt was white, and it was 🤔 honestly, I was wearing my black raincoat 🤔

Well, I have plenty of new pins. I don't really like wearing more than one at a time (except on my black jacket where some buttons fell off, so I just used pins instead)... so stress-wise, there’s enough variety to go around 😁 we actually tried to pay for coffee with them this morning 😁

But oh well, it's a shame we didn't catch it sooner 😢
