Trash Horror

I'm no expert when it comes to this genre, but The Comedy Store is definitely one of my favorites—it’s just such a damn good, fun movie.👍 🙏

That whole sequence with the director in that godforsaken little town is absolute gold🙏

The soundtrack is pretty brutal though—there's a band performing between each of the three segments, giving off that total '80s MTV vibe🤣

Sadly, you can't find the movie anywhere; I managed to catch it once on PBS around 3 in the morning

Yeah, that part was actually pretty solid... you know, the fog, the small town vibe, all that gothic feeling.

And that ending... man... I have to admit, it’s one of the creepiest endings I've ever seen. Not just because it's scary, but those faces were just straight-up unsettling... brrr...

Man, I watched that flick ages ago too. It’s such an original, fun ride. That scene with the stripper going all the way? Unforgettable. 👍 But honestly, that third segment—the one with the director in the haunted village where the cops smile and show their teeth—that gave me actual chills. I really wish they'd put it back on streaming somewhere.

That’s a really sharp observation right there.
Hmmmm, I wonder if it’s because those trashy Warner Bros. style flicks promise a much more guilty kind of pleasure? There’s usually this fantastic element involved—you know, like zombies or other monsters—that requires a massive amount of effort in terms of special effects and masks just to try and pull off a suspension of belief. But since the filmmakers are often such amateurs when it comes to the standard stuff like acting, framing, or editing, they end up looking even more ridiculous when they try to tackle those "advanced" technical bits.
The real kicker, though, is how much fun it is watching them trigger the exact opposite reaction from what they intended—instead of being terrified, you just end up laughing your head off.

I suppose that might be why other trash genres don't hit the same way; a trashy comedy just isn't funny, trashy action is totally unexciting, and trashy adult films aren't exactly stimulating. 😁

Total trash, but I just picked it up at the local video store: DRACULA 3000 - 😂 😂

Every single genre has its share of absolute garbage, though I suppose trash doesn't quite reach cult status as effortlessly as it does in a Warner Bros. production... On one hand, you have cinematic achievements like *The Shining* or *Rosemary's Baby* that stand as legitimate masterpieces, but then you have the low-budget disasters like *Evil Dead* that somehow become even greater masterpieces because of how bad they are. If you look at the action genre, you've got solid films like *Die Hard* or *The Terminator* which aren't necessarily high art but are undeniably great movies, whereas on the other side of the spectrum, you're stuck with the endless grindhouse clutter produced by people like Godfrey... It’s just pure trash without any redeeming quality, and honestly, you see the same pattern playing out across every other genre too.

It’s a scary movie, sure, but in all the wrong ways. I happened to have this incredibly low-quality DVD of it once, and honestly... watching it was pure torture.😉

In one of the absolute best entries, we get two detectives who are constant buddies—just constantly trading barbs and teasing each other.
The movie kicks off with one of them attempting suicide, but instead of a bullet, he pulls out a bottle of gin—because the guy actually wants to drown himself in booze. His wife left him...
His partner, on the other hand, has a wife who smokes so much that their canaries are dropping dead one after another—leaving nothing but a mountain of cigarette butts clogging up the stairs...
Eventually, she heads off to a smoking cessation program, but when she returns, she’s wrapped head-to-toe in bandages like some kind of mummy. Her husband nearly has a heart attack and starts shooting at her—all while a single cigarette is sticking out from her bandaged head (not to mention the rest of her body)...

And you absolutely cannot miss that chainsaw showdown at the end.
The suspect's last name is Cairo—and the phone book is just filled with people named Cairo...

You'll never guess who the culprit is—assuming you can even survive the movie through all the laughing—it really is a masterpiece of comedy...
