I don't really have any favorite drug anthems (though, honestly, if a track is actually good, it can be about anything—even peddling crack to kids—and still be a masterpiece) because I don't feel particularly strongly about any specific substance, except for a massive distaste for the kind that threatens to shrink my family tree by one. But when it comes to booze? Elliott Smith: Between The Bars—just a stunning love song written from the perspective of a bottle... singing to a drunk. Usually, I can't stand seeing lyrics copy-pasted all over this forum, but for this one, I'll make an exception:

It’s one of those tracks that just hits differently depending on your headspace. I guess I find myself circling back to it more often than I probably should, maybe because there's something about that raw, gritty production that feels so visceral. It's got this relentless momentum that just pulls you right in, almost like you're being swept up in it before you even realize what happened. I don't know, maybe it's just the way the rhythm section locks in, but it creates this atmosphere that feels both massive and incredibly intimate at the same time.
