The sequence... and that manufactured tension (which doesn't even exist at this level in the film, given how it handles previous situations compared to the intensity shown in the trailer/since the movie isn't a direct continuation of those specific scenes)...

I usually keep an eye on movies that catch my interest long before any trailers even drop, so I don't pay too much attention to the marketing hype. However, a few films last year really caught me off guard when they actually arrived, mostly because the trailers were telling a completely different story:

Dictator - half thing - Half of what you see in the trailer isn't even in the movie. I've heard rumors that there are multiple cuts of the film, but the version I saw in theaters had absolutely nothing to do with the trailer.

Bad Grandpa - The trailer is way overhyped and gives a totally false impression of the movie. The actual pacing of the film is completely different. To me, it felt like just another episode of Jackass.

As if they’re gonna sit there and summarize the entire plot from A to Z in bullet points for us, right?🙄

Besides, the tension builds perfectly fine in the trailer, just like it does in the actual flick.☕

It's "bait" when they take the absolute best scenes from an otherwise hollow movie.
This trailer didn't even come close to hitting its best scenes, let alone trying to.

I brought up Prometheus because that trailer totally hooked me. I was counting down the days until the movie dropped, but then I actually watched it... and nothing. Zilch. And please, don't start with the Prometheus stuff again.

Regarding the sequence used in trailers🙏Is it because they reveal too much of the plot, or is it just because they don't follow the actual chronological order of the story?

I can't decide what irritates me more—when a trailer has absolutely nothing to do with the actual movie, or when it spoils the entire plot by cramming every single highlight into a two-minute clip, leaving nothing left for the theater experience. Take the Atonement trailer, for instance. It basically gave away everything... except for that final twist.

Now I'm trying to dig up another trailer that completely misled me. Juno comes to mind. They marketed it as this hilarious, laugh-out-loud comedy, but the film is actually more of a witty drama. It isn't that it was bad, it's just—well, it wasn't what I signed up for.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to just post the movie trailers right away. That way, we have immediate proof of what's being discussed.

So, they played the preview in the theater right before another movie, and I immediately thought, "this is going to be total garbage." Like, what are you doing, Scorsese? You've got a black skinhead in the background, everything is hyper-stylized, everyone's acting all cocky, and DiCaprio looks totally wired. It almost made me cry—it gave me such an instant aversion to the film.
But then I check the comments and everyone is absolutely losing their minds with excitement. People whose taste I actually trust, apparently. Guess I'll have to watch it too—no other choice.

I think he really did do some damage to the film, but he gets certain things. Like why McConeghy is in the trailer instead of Jonah Hill, even though he could totally grab an Oscar for this role.

It’s honestly great. What’s wild is how the movie just keeps veering away from its own tone until things get incredibly dark. By the end, you’re left with something that’s anything but a lighthearted comedy. I can't help but feel like the actual message of the film got totally swallowed up by that over-the-top, goofy beginning.

Defendor is a bit of a heavy lift. I can’t quite recall all the gritty details, but I know for a fact I liked it way better than most of the other stuff out there. Still, even if it's a tough watch, it's definitely worth checking out.

I never watch trailers, nor do I plan to.😁
I've sat through over 3,000 movies now without watching a single trailer.
I don't care about IMDb ratings, vote counts, the cast, or even who directed it.

The only things that actually grab my attention are the poster and a brief synopsis.
You should try it yourselves. You might just stumble upon something great, and you won't deal with nearly as much disappointment since you aren't walking in with any expectations...

My philosophy is simple—the less you know going in, the better.

True, though some people clearly need a quick refresher.
I just finished watching two trailers for 1 and 2. Based on the footage, it looks more like a comedy-drama, especially with the "thank you for smoking" reference. Sometimes people just jump to the wrong conclusions. It's easy to misread things when you're expecting a wild slapstick comedy, even if there aren't really any signs that it'll go that route..

It honestly drives me crazy when they shove a scene into a 🙂 just because it isn't even in the actual movie.

Go ahead and roast me since I can't think of a single 🙂 right now,
but you all know how often this happens.
