ASd said:Freddy vs. Jason actually turned out alright.

Then Alien vs. Predator is better by default (even if they both suck).
Freddy vs. Jason is just ridiculous.

Now we're just missing
Freddy vs. Predator
Jason vs. Alien
Freddy vs. Alien
Jason vs. Predator
Freddy and Jason vs. Predator and Alien
etc., etc., etc.

A little off-topic here...
I wanted to see if anyone recognizes this movie title:
I watched it about ten years ago, but I can't recall the actual plot—just some specific imagery from the film.
Basically, it went something like this:

A house, where a skeleton is bound in chains, worms crawling out of a skull, one skull sitting in a glass jar or an aquarium, also swarming with worms. Lots of foliage everywhere. The bathroom is flooded with cockroaches and worms, emerging from shells, pipes, vents, you name it. Behind the house, which sits on a rock, there’s a creek or a river, and more corpses floating in it...

I know I haven't given much to go on, but if anyone happens to know the name of this movie, let me know.

That kind of sounds like the beginning of Phenomenon 👍

Freddy vs. Alien
Jason vs. Predator
Freddy and Jason vs. Predator and Alien
and so on, and so forth...

Alien vs. Ash 😎

ASd said:No, Michael Myers is... Hellboy! 😁 Born in hell, raised by demons—this whole "human family" thing is a joke...

Ver. 2: Michael Myers is just commercial **trash that refuses to stay dead.

The original Halloween is boring—the second one barely saves the concept, the third is completely irrelevant, and the rest are just unnecessary filler (though I've only actually seen the 6th or something, so maybe I'm not qualified to comment 😁). Then you have Halloween: 20 Years Later—which is just a convenient commercial extension that feels pretty monotonous compared to other modern slashers—and Halloween: Big Brother in the creepy house (where Jamie Lee Curtis dies in the stupidest way possible; they just extend the series so they can churn out another 30 sequels).

Freddy is overrated. The first one is decent, the second is mediocre, the third is okay, and they should have stopped right there—but they didn't, and that's the tragedy of Freddy Krueger and A Nightmare on Elm Street.

I love the Scream Trilogy.

Alien vs. Ash turned out alright. There were a million ways they could have botched it (some people will say they did! 😁)

Jason is incredibly monotonous. I watched two minutes of the second one before giving up. And I have zero interest in watching Jason.

The issue is that you go into a movie expecting something specific and immediately pigeonhole it into predefined patterns or genres.

Wrong Turn isn't horror, but it's a phenomenal thriller and I really dig it.

And did anyone mention The Exorcist? I wasn't particularly impressed (not even when the kid is freaking out with the cross and shouting, "Fuck me! Jesus, fuck me!"). It feels like the entire movie boils down to a guy sitting by a lamp in the dark, plus that terrible parody in Scary Movie 2 (which is a bad parody regardless!). Still, I might check out The Exorcist: The Beginning—some show recently got me interested in it 😁.

Unfortunately, I agree—Michael has BECOME pure commercial trash that just won't die.
If the first Halloween was boring, then Scream is boring IMO. I don't get how you find Halloween boring but Scream entertaining...
I saw Alien vs. Ash and now I'm worried that Freddy is also just commercial trash that refuses to die.
As for Wrong Turn, I have nothing against it. It's fun and unobtrusive, but unfortunately, nothing special or groundbreaking.
The Exorcist hit me HARD. Best movie ever, IMO. It’s about the struggle between good and evil, not some guy under a lamp lol.
Please, DO NOT watch The Beginning or any of those garbage Exorcist sequels. 😉

It honestly feels like Freddy vs. Jason was way too simplistic. It’s almost as if nobody really wanted to put in the heavy lifting to make the movie truly great, though I have to say, the core concept itself wasn't a bad idea at all!

Ever since the original Halloween came out, I’ve felt like the first and third sequels were actually worth watching—they at least tried to shake things up from the original premise. But that last one? The one where they try to track down Michael Myers using an iPaq with a camera attachment? Honestly, that was just a total disaster. And knowing how this industry works, I’m sure we'll be seeing even more sequels soon.

Now, Friday the 13th is also pretty great, though I'd say the first installment is the standout—just a solid, no-frills slasher with some decent gore and that classic, moody atmosphere you love (think lonely lakes, pouring rain, being miles away from civilization, and a killer lurking in the shadows).

Wait, did nobody mention the Candyman trilogy by Clive Barker? 1, 2, and 3 are all right there!
Amityville and its sequels...

By the way, some of the most extreme horror flicks out there were actually inspired by H. P. Lovecraft. You've got big blockbusters in that vein, like the '88 version of The Blob or Beyond 86, and then you have the straight-up gorefests like City of the Living Dead, which was actually banned across much of Europe for over twenty years.

Stuart Gordon directed plenty of decent films based on Lovecraftian stories, though he’s probably best known for Re-animator...🙂

How can you say that? Both Candyman and Amityville were just mentioned!
To be honest though, Candyman never really did it for me.

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned Poltergeist I or II, but personally, the second one is absolutely fantastic!

Well, they actually aired Night of the Living Dead on ABC last night at 11:40 PM! What’s next on the schedule? Maybe they'll roll out Dawn and Dead too?

It wasn't a bad film... I might end up putting together a review for the blog sometime...🙂

It might sound a bit weird, but classic horror movies don't really creep me out as much as those intense psychological thrillers do. But, just to stay in the loop, I guess I'll list a few of mine...

HOUSE OF HORROR
THE INTRUDERS
MYSTERIOUS SUBSIDENCE
The Exorcist
GHOST SHIP
Constantine
SLEEPING DEATH LAKE (PART 2)
Resident Evil 1 & 2
Riding the Bullet
Grudge
The House

...and here’s a second list (these are top-tier for me) from that other group of "creepy thrillers with horror elements"...

Gothika
Godsent
Last Sing

Look, I have it on a digital file, but I swear the quality from the broadcast on ABC was way better 😉 or maybe I’m just losing it? Haha, the version I have on my hard drive looks absolutely terrible!

Adam Thomas57 said:GHOST SHIP
CONSTANTIN
RESIDENT EVIL 1 & 2

To be honest, none of those really blew me away. But Constantine? I could never stomach that as a horror movie. It’s more like a mishmash of everything—mostly sci-fi and a thriller mixed together.

Resident Evil 1 and 2 aren't bad, though. We’ll see how things shake out next year when part 3 finally drops.

Ghost Ship was such a letdown for me. It starts off brilliantly, but then it just drags and becomes incredibly stupid!

Does "The Sixth Sense" fit in here?😕
That movie is an absolute powerhouse. I’ve sat through it several times now, and even though I know exactly what’s coming, those few specific scenes still manage to get under my skin.
As far as the classics go, I was obsessed with Freddy Krueger when I was a kid, though these days I find myself gravitating more toward psychological thrillers.

My top picks:

The Ring
Candyman
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Friday the 13th
and so on.

AND OF COURSE, THE SIXTH SENSE! :horror:

It just doesn't quite click, does it? There are a few awkward moments here and there, but at its heart, the film definitely aims to be a thriller.

Let's keep this moving, for instance The changeling from Medford, has anyone actually sat down and watched that 🙂
