I honestly cannot wrap my head around the logic here. How is it even possible that citric acid—something found in practically every piece of fruit on the planet—is being branded as one of the most hazardous additives out there? They’re actually claiming it causes cancer nowadays.

How does that even make sense?????

Let's be real—it’s just not true. Lemon acid doesn't cause cancer.

Could it be that there’s a connection here, simply because this stuff is synthesized in a lab rather than being extracted from actual fruit?

Perhaps the chemical makeup isn't an exact match after all.

If that's the case, why is everyone constantly screaming about how E330 is some massive carcinogen?

I mean, maybe the chemical makeup isn't a perfect match, right???

If that were the case, why on earth would everyone be constantly freaking out about how E330 is one of the most carcinogenic additives out there???

Extracting it straight from fruit would cost an absolute fortune, and honestly, there's zero difference between the synthetic version and the natural one because... well, E330 lemon is E330 lemon. If they weren't identical, they wouldn't even be using the same name.

Then what on earth is the point of all this massive hype claiming that E330 lemon is the most carcinogenic additive out there?!

😕

Edward Turner27 said:Then what’s with all this massive HYSTERIA about E330 being the MOST CANCEROGENIC additive ever!!!!!!!!!!

😕

First off—go double-check if E330 actually even refers to citric acid... just make sure you aren't chasing ghosts here.

2. And if it turns out it is—then next time you run into some doom-and-gloomer claiming E330 is a carcinogen, just tell 'em they're dead wrong. I mean, seriously... citric acid is in basically all fruit anyway, so it's pretty obvious it isn't doing us any harm.

Just gonna copy-paste this little snippet from my list of additives right here

4. BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH
a) gut issues E220,221,224,232
b) digestion problems E338,339,340,341,350,461,463,465,466,
in packaged ice cream E407
c) skin conditions E230,231,232,233
d) destroys vitamin B12 E200
e) raises cholesterol E320,321
f) irritates nerves E311,312
g) mouth inflammation E330 is the most dangerous additive (it means cancer)

but then again E330 IS just E330 lemon acid... so I guess we'll see who's actually right about this one! 😕

but then again, E330 IS just lemon acid... so, I mean, who's actually buying this? 😕

It’s pretty basic math—if E330 really is just lemon acid, then that info on the list above is straight-up wrong.

And adults are being lied to... 😁

4. HARMFUL TO YOUR HEALTH
a) Gut issues caused by E220, 221, 224, 232
b) Digestion problems linked to E338, 339, 340, 341, 350, 461, 463, 465, 466,
found in packaged ice cream brands like Ben & Jerry's: E407
c) Skin conditions from E230, 231, 232, 233
d) Destroys Vitamin B12: E200
e) Raises cholesterol levels: E320, 321
f) Overstimulates nerves: E311, 312
g) Mouth inflammation: E330 is the most dangerous additive (it means cancer)

But then again, E330 IS just lemon acid... so who really knows...😕

Where on earth did you find that?

By the way, maybe take a breath—you're causing a huge stir over one wrong fact. It’s definitely not the first time someone on this board has gone overboard because of E330. http://www.ukfoodguide.net/e330.htm

1. Double-check if the E330 label actually refers to citric acid.

Seriously,😉

------------------

Where on earth did you get that from?

By the way, maybe clean yourself up a bit—you’ve stirred up a massive panic over one single piece of incorrect data (and it isn't the first time someone on this board has done that regarding E330). http://www.ukfoodguide.net/e330.htm

I honestly find it hard to believe the entire world—TV, newspapers, all of it—is still peddling the idea that citric acid is highly carcinogenic...

In reality, citric acid is just one of the products of the Krebs cycle within the body..

And Krebs in German means it means cancer.

So, there's your misunderstanding...😕

That’s what happens when you spend too much time reading tabloids. 😁 I have no idea where you heard that on TV... I've definitely never seen or heard that from any mainstream news outlet—once a buddy tried to explain it to me, but besides that, it’s just stuff you see on forums where someone like you pops up every other day...

Then there was a misunderstanding...😕

Why are you confused? You really don't believe that E330 lemon isn't carcinogenic? Think about how much of it you've consumed in your life... if it actually meant cancer, we'd all be six feet under by now... 😉

Oh, please... It’s glaringly obvious that it isn't. So why all the frantic hype? Why is it being shoved down our throats on every single news channel from CNN to Fox?

P.S: Is it possible that synthetic citric acid—the kind manufactured in a lab rather than sourced from actual fruit—might contain some nasty carcinogenic impurities? Maybe it just isn't 100% pure after all.

What hype though? I haven't heard a word about this... certainly haven't seen it on any major networks.

P.S. Maybe synthetic citric acid (you know, the man-made kind, not the stuff from fruit) has some carcinogens in it? Like, maybe it isn't 100% pure?

Please, don't go there. Just... don't... 🙂 🙂

I’m looking for a bit more scientific depth here, though I suspect nobody in this corner of the internet actually understands the mechanics behind tin production.

Edward Turner27 said:I'm looking for some actual science here, but clearly nobody on this board knows the first thing about how citric acid is actually made...

Look—if > isn't carcinogenic (whether it's natural or synthetic), then why are we even wasting time using "scientific principles" to argue whether the artificial version is dangerous? It just isn't. We aren't going to sit around debating what *would* happen if it were toxic, right? That makes no sense. I bet you read somewhere that saccharin itself isn't the problem, but rather those unproven impurities found in certain brands... and now you're trying to use that same flawed logic to claim > is a risk. Out of all the stuff containing >, it's probably one of the safest things out there, maybe second to plain water. Honestly, you'd have a much better time worrying about high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, food dyes, or preservatives. Stop looking for smoke where there isn't even a fire...😉

I’d love to give you a long-winded lecture on how carcinogenic citric acid is, but honestly? I don't have the time. In about five minutes, I'll probably drop dead from esophageal and stomach cancer that's already metastasized through my entire body—all thanks to some E330 lemon acid. Just as soon.

I suppose you read somewhere that saccharin isn't inherently carcinogenic,

As far as I’m concerned, saccharin itself is definitely a carcinogen.

Look, my goal here isn't to act as some prosecutor trying to PROVE THAT A COKE IS CANCEROGENIC. It's more about pointing out the potential risk—the possibility that trace amounts of impurities could find their way into mass-produced sodas during the manufacturing process...

It isn't necessarily the soda itself; it's those additives and contaminants that might emerge during industrial production.
