I'm wondering if taking antibiotics can mess up a woman's vaginal flora 😲
If it can, what are some ways to get things back to normal besides just seeing a gynecologist? πŸ˜•

Antibiotics basically just wipe out everything living in thereβ€”including all those "good" bacteria your vagina actually needs to stay balanced. Once they're gone, you end up with a massive overgrowth of stuff like yeast (Candida albicans), which leads to that annoying itching and all that white discharge. It’s not the end of the world, though... if you can grab some Monistat, that usually does the trick.

But honestly, you should probably still swing by the OBGYN. A messed-up pH or a broken flora balance isn't always caused by meds; it could be something else entirely that just flares up after you finish your antibiotics. Plus, topical creams don't work for everyoneβ€”sometimes you just need to take Diflucan, and you definitely can't get a prescription for that without a doctor's note.

Yeah, that’s exactly what you said. I was actually just at my OB-GYN recently and everything seems fine on their end. By the way, are those Monistat tablets? And can I just pick them up over the counter?

You can grab some Monistat cream over the counter at any CVS or Walgreens... honestly, even just the regular stuff might do the trickβ€”I think the main difference is just how much clotrimazole they pack into the vaginal version compared to the skin cream, but hey, whatever works

Just do a quick Google search, you’ll find tons of solid advice on dealing with yeast infections from gynecologists online (WebMD)
