Personally, I’m just crossing my fingers that they lean heavily into the practical stuff—more killer makeup and insane costumes rather than just drowning everything in cheap CGI.

That said, the whole thing looked pretty slick. If they do a sequel, I feel like they should probably flip that ratio unless Bubimir ends up being the main attraction and the entire plot just revolves around him.

What do you guys think about Johnny Depp stepping in as Bubimir if Keaton is officially out?

And let me just say—Keaton is easily one of the most underrated actors out there... It's a total injustice.
To me, he is Bubimir—I simply cannot imagine anyone else stepping into that role.

While chatting with MTV during the press junket for this week’s release of RoboCop—where Keaton plays the big corporate bad guy—the actor dropped some pretty cool news. It turns out he and Burton have been casually bouncing the idea of Beetlejuice 2 around, and honestly, they both seem totally ready and itching to dive back into that world:

“I’ve e-mailed Tim a couple of times, talked to the writer a couple of times, but all really, really preliminary stuff until relatively recently. I always said that’s the one thing I’d like to do again, if I ever did anything again. But it kind of required Tim to be involved some way or another.

“Now it looks like he is involved. And without giving too much away we’ve talked to each other, and e-mailed each other, and if he’s in, it’s going to be hard not to be in.”

After all the rumors about Beetlejuice 2 were floating around, Winona Ryder told The Huffington Post that the sequel will push through. Back in early 2015, though, Grahame-Smith spilled some spoilers on Entertainment Weekly.

"I've emailed with Michael Keaton," Grahame-Smith explained.

"I know he's excited about the idea. Where it stands now is Tim's got to get ready to make 'Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children,' and then hopefully we are set, deals are done, and we're waiting in the wings ready to go right after 'Peregrine's' wraps up. The ideal timeline is we're really getting into it toward the end of this year."

"There's a script now that I think is closer to what it could be and I'm excited about it," said Tim Burton regarding the speculations.

"I wouldn't call it so much a sequel, but I'll have some characters from the original Beetlejuice. It's a bit too early to say but it's definitely something that's on my radar and something I'd love to do."
