It’s just Icepick who had something to say about it. Everyone else seems perfectly happy—myself included. 😉

Larry Castillo66 said:I’ve been using Microsoft Outlook—which works incredibly well—alongside Safari, which isn't bad at all. I hadn't really considered Gmail before, but this thread actually convinced me to give it a shot. You can add as many SMTP accounts as you need. Honestly, it's much better than I anticipated—really straightforward and intuitive. I don't really see the issue. I'm not sure why everyone is complaining.

👍

you just have to look into it a bit

Well, I gave it my best shot, truly...

If someone isn't feeling Gmail, then they just aren't feeling it...

To each their own, right? Just depends on what you need...

Quick heads-up:

With Google Chrome, sometimes the download manager just hangs right at the finish line instead of actually finishing the job...

Like, I'll see 3.7 MB of 3.7 MB downloaded and 0:00 time left, but because it didn't technically "complete," the file is totally useless...

Then I'm stuck having to hit cancel and retry just to get it to work properly...

It doesn't happen every single time, but man, it's annoying—especially when you're downloading something huge...🙄

Just wanted to give a quick shout-out to whoever brought up Gmail first in this thread, because it actually convinced me to give it a shot. This thing is absolutely killer. I’m ditching everything else for good. Honestly, why didn't I think of this sooner? It would have saved me so much damn headache. It's way better than using Microsoft Outlook or Safari.

I’m officially ditching everything else. Why didn't I think of this sooner? It would have saved me so much headache. Honestly, way better than what I was using before with my old setups.

What's better? I've been sticking with my usual stuff too.

Now I'm actually curious. 😁

In Safari and Microsoft Outlook, you basically get two choices when you download mail: leave it on the server or delete it entirely. That’s it. Honestly, it’s a total pain. I need to be able to jump onto my email from any computer without breaking a sweat. If there isn't a solid web interface, I'm not interested. I manage several different addresses, and luckily, they all have webmail access. But here's the catch: if I download everything and wipe the server clean, I'm locked out of my messages when I switch devices. On the flip side, if I leave everything sitting on the server, I have to manually hunt down and kill spam through the web interface *and* my email client just to keep things tidy. It's way too much work, especially with the amount of junk I deal with daily. Ideally, I'd love to pick and choose which specific threads stay on the server and which ones get nuked locally. I actually reached out to the Microsoft Outlook developers to complain about this missing feature, and I'm really hoping they fix it in the next update because, aside from that, Outlook is great. Gmail handles this perfectly—you can leave stuff on the server until you explicitly decide to delete it from the inbox. Just easy.

Perfect? How big is your mailbox exactly?

It doesn't take much—just a few larger emails—to fill it right up.

What we actually need is for things to be cleared out after maybe a month, or sooner if you're staying on top of it.

By the way, the inbox layout is pretty useless. Using Safari filters is a much smoother way to work (Google does the same thing). 🙂

I've got 1 GB on Gmail and another 1 GB through Comcast, my ISP, plus a massive one at my university that I can't even put a number on. After a month, I’d easily have over a thousand messages sitting there. It's such a pain in the ass trying to clear them all out through a web interface.

Just stumbled upon that setting.

I don't really use Mozilla, so I wasn't exactly looking for this, but... hey, it's not bad. If they keep working at it, they might actually catch up to the quality of Outlook Express. 😁

Guess you think it’ll be three times better in just a little bit...🙂

After digging into Gmail a bit more, I've realized it's slightly better than Outlook Express, but nowhere near as good as Outlook. Honestly, I don't get all the hype when it feels pretty mediocre.

Fred said:After digging into Thunderbird a bit more, I've gotta say it's slightly better than IBM but way behind Gmail. Not sure why everyone's hyping it up when it's just pretty mid.

That's subjective, man... Personally, I dig how it handles accounts, the anti-spam stuff, and working with newsgroups (especially that search feature)..

It's definitely an upgrade over IBM, sure. And yeah, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of Gmail, but Gmail isn't free, right?

Besides, you can always find a free calendar or planner that works just as well and gives you those Gmail-style features anyway...
