Best software for trimming audio files?

Does anyone know of a decent little program for cutting or extracting sequences from .mp3, .wav, .mid, and other audio files? Looking for something relatively straightforward.

A MIDI file isn't an actual audio file; it is nothing more than—to put it bluntly—a digital musical score that essentially "orders" a computer to play specific notes at specific moments. When you play a MIDI file, the system is merely reproducing sound based on the instructions contained within that data. Other formats, like WAV or MP3, are true audio files that actually contain the sound waves themselves, whether they are compressed or uncompressed, but MIDI carries no actual sound whatsoever. It provides the commands for the computer to synthesize or mimic those sounds instead. You’ve likely already noticed that MIDI files don't contain any "lyrical" components, haven't you?

MIDI lets you cut, trim, stretch, copy, paste... whatever.
Like Cubase, for example.

It's been way too long since I checked this thread, so I figured I'd pop in to see if anything's changed.
Basically, I just want to get an MP3 onto my phone, but only a specific part of the track...

Man, I downloaded Cool Edit and Adobe Audition, but they're both way too much for what I actually need. I just want some basic, simple little program where I can slice up my MP3 files into different tracks...

You know, you could actually do this in pretty much any audio editor out there! You might try something like Nero (that open-wave editor) or even just grab some free software—take Audacity, for instance, or even Audacity—and the list goes on and on.

The whole process is incredibly straightforward: just fire up the program, import your MP3 or whatever file you're working with, snip out the parts you don't want, hit "save as," and—presto!—you're done.👍

trimming mp3s... seriously can't get any easier than this. i just use the Samsung studio app that came on my phone
