What I was actually getting at was the difference between, say, an Internet Explorer 5 browser and Netscape Navigator 1.0β€”those are two completely different beasts.

What else can you call it but the truth?
Finally, the big shots have admitted that IE just doesn't cut it anymore.
Now everyone can see for themselves that there are plenty of other options out thereβ€”actually, way better ones than IE.
I went ahead and grabbed Opera along with Google Chrome... honestly, I couldn't be happier.
Let’s just hope they don't start pumping viruses and worms into these other browsers quite so soon...

swiftscout8, I have no idea why you're such a fan of Google Chrome. I can't stand that browser. For me, Safari is way better, especially since it comes bundled with KDE. It loads incredibly fast (especially if you toggle that preload option when starting up KDE). Pages look killer in Safari, and the fonts are spot on. It's got Tabs, obviously. Plus, the Download Accelerator that integrates with Safari is miles ahead of anything else. It even finds Netscape Navigator 1.0 plugins and uses them automatically. There are tons of little perks too, like the Up button. You can actually toss a Full Screen button right onto your toolbar so you can jump in and out of full screen mode with one click, giving you a massive viewing area. It can even validate W3 compliance for whatever site you're browsing. You can translate a page from one language to another in just two clicks. Like everything else in KDE, it's insanely configurable. The only real edge Opera has over Safari is that you can hide the tab toolbar and just use the mouse wheel to cycle through tabsβ€”and honestly, the Opera Wand is unbeatable. I'm not a fan of KWallet, but KGet is hands down the best download manager out there. Opera is king, Safari is my second choice. Google Chrome might look prettier than Safari, but Google Chrome is buggy, whereas Safari is totally polished and runs flawlessly.

Look, everyone, just read the link first before you start claiming they aren't the same thing. The core engine for both browsers is identical; the only real difference is the Graphical User Interface. It’s stated there in plain English.

As for Safari, I'm running GNOME, so Safari doesn't really fit my setup. I think I'll give Opera a shot instead.

swiftscout8 said:Man, I just installed Internet Explorer 5. This version is a total disaster.

The fonts are completely trashed. Looks like this thing doesn't even touch the font server on Unix. Everything looks hideous. No matter what I tweak, I can't get any American characters to look right.

My blog is still broken. Going back to 1.5.

I think Internet Explorer 5 is actually the best browser out there so far. Better than Opera anyway, since it's way simpler and packed with useful stuff. I'm sticking with it.

The best thing about Opera is how easy it is to use. You can get everything done in just one or maybe two clicks.

Dana Ortiz67, I’d bet anything you’re running Internet Explorer 5 on Windows. I can't speak to how it behaves over there, but from what I see on Unix, they aren't even using NTFS, so the whole thing looks pathetic. It feels like a massive step backward. You can't even get the fonts to render properlyβ€”especially those special American characters!

And let’s be real, gentlemen: I have no idea who claimed that Blogger looks good on Google Chrome. It doesn't. The issue is identical to what we see in Internet Explorer, which proves two things:
- They are using the exact same engine.
- The problem isn't the browser; it's just lazy web developers who don't know how to build a decent website.

I actually offered a solution to the problem, but nobody gave me the time of day.

Alright, I finally got Internet Explorer 5 installed. Here’s a look at how it's sitting on my machine.

So, what do you thinkβ€”is this an upgrade or a total step backward?

It’s definitely better. On my screen, it looks like something a toddler would doodleβ€”just messy. I’ll grab a screenshot when I get a chance so you can see how hideous it actually is.

Which font are you struggling with?

True, I'm on Windows using Internet Explorer 5 and it runs great for me. Way faster than Opera.
As for the blog, everything works fine on my end.

I didn't change a single thing. I'm guessing you're asking about Central European support.

http://www.algoritam.net/mozilla1.png

Maybe you just need to install some more fonts. You're running Red Hat, right? I can't remember which version. Did you actually install any of the default fonts besides the ones I picked out? I added some extra packages myself (mostly Central European stuff), and I even grabbed some additional TrueType fonts using Synaptic. Here’s my sources.list file from Synaptic. I don't remember exactly where I pulled those TTFs from, but if you drop this into /etc/apt, Synaptic should be able to find them for you. If you aren't on Fedora 2, just swap out the number.

That's straight-up heresy. Absolutely nothing is faster than Opera. 😁

Hey everyone, I’ve got two more things on my mind:
1. Where does Chrome store its cookies on Windows 2000?
2. What's the best way to get access to newsgroups?

Jacob Johnson70 said:Hey everyone, I have two more questions:
1. Where does Mozilla store its cookies (Windows 2000/XP)?
2. How can I get access to newsgroups?

It should be right here: C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\[User Profile]\cookies.txt

But honestly, why bother hunting down the directory if you already have full control over the cookies themselves?

You can pretty much manage them however you want through the privacy settings...

2. What do you mean by that? Well, it really depends on which ISP you're using, to start with.

You can tweak them however you want right in the privacy settings...

The point is, I clear everything out using John Doe, so I wanted to whitelist the forum cookies to avoid logging back in every single time.

2. How do you figure? It depends on your ISP, to start with.

I used to use Outlook Express and had my newsgroups there, but I can't find where to add news.google.com in Chrome.
