rustyrider40 really nailed this one. 👍

At 1.47V, any stock Conroe should breeze through SuperPI without breaking a sweat—honestly, even those little guys might handle it.

What RAM are you running? And why just a screenshot of the validation instead of a direct link? Also, why is this in Italian? 😁

aiming for the Front Side Bus

Exactly. It won't go any further. At the end of the day, it's still a P5KR. To push it more, you'd need some serious mods or just a different board entirely...

darkowl72 said:@ rustyrider40: looking good... what are you using for cooling?

Using this.

wiredmarlin5 said:Nice work. You didn't mention the cooling, though, and I don't see Zalman in there... 😁

Too bad you don't have an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, you could probably hit 4.5GHz with that👍

Are you registered on PCI Express too?

I posted my cooling setup a few posts up...
If I had an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, I’d be hitting at least 4.75GHz.
I actually had a shot at snagging an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 to swap out this Intel Core 2 Duo E8200. But there was all this talk about certain batches being junk, people saying only the early production runs were actually good. Turns out I might have messed that up... because this Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 I have is from one of those early batches.

1.47V should handle a stock Conroe for SuperPI 1M without breaking a sweat, maybe even these little guys could...

I tried bumping it to 1.6V but the result stayed exactly the same.
The memory is Patriot Extreme PC8500. I pushed it to 2.55V, which is the limit for this board, but I can't get the latency any lower...
Just used a screenshot because I didn't feel like messing around with links, and besides, did you think it wasn't stable? It wouldn't pass Orthos, but it ran perfectly fine for what I needed. As for the language, it's because where I am right now, people speak Italian, it's not about the country itself...😁

wiredmarlin5 said:Are you also ranked on PCI Express?

Yeah, I am. Currently sitting at number 9 on the top ten list...

Since I'm running this thing 24/7, I keep it clocked at 3.8GHz with 1.392V and a 1900MHz Front Side Bus. Running Mema CL4.
Max temps under Orthos stay right around 60°C...

Hehe, well, not quite... it's technically possible, but man, it would be incredibly tough! Just look at the PCI Express forums, there are so many people running Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 and Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 chips, yet hardly anyone actually breaks the 4.5GHz barrier...🙂

But then again, if you truly know what you're doing... I suppose it could happen, though you'd need a massive stroke of luck when buying to stumble upon a silicon lottery winner that's actually capable...

You've got a point about the E8400, too, because back on the XS forums, there was all this chatter about how some of the newer series just couldn't hit 4GHz no matter what...

Anyway, I went ahead and merged those posts for you, since they looked pretty messy before and were actually breaking the rules...🙂

Should I mention that this is Kingmax RAM? 😁

And clarify that it remains stable at 1.90v? (It has been fully tested via memtest & orthos)

Here is the proof for the owner of those expensive sticks that won't even boot at 900+ CL4, even with 2.5v applied. 😂

I suspect it would run perfectly stable at 1.85v. ☕

Did some light testing on the CPU. Hit a Front Side Bus wall at 425
A few more results here
And SuperPI 1M came in at 18.610sec...

And honestly, what’s even the point of all this? I mean, just take a look at the thread title... 😉

🤣 But changing the factory settings... anyway, should I set the voltage to manual or auto? Because Core Temp shows my CPU at 1.325v, but if I switch to manual and set both the voltage and the CPU to 1.325v, sometimes it won't even boot. WTF

That’s because when you lock the voltage at 1.325, it stays right there. But if you leave it on AUTO, the processor just grabs whatever it thinks it needs. And sometimes, it grabs way more than it actually does.

What do you all think about this setup for overclocking:
ASUS P5N-D
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4
Scythe Zipang
2x XFX 8800GT SLI
4GB Kingmax DDR2 PC6400 800MHz

I'm aiming to push the processor up to 3.0 GHz.
I've been reading on some forums that this specific board barely hits a 2.7 GHz overclock when paired with a Q6600.
Is it actually worth the effort, and is it even possible to break past 2.7 GHz with this build? Also, does anyone have advice on how to configure the BIOS settings?
What are the maximum recommended operating temperatures for the CPU and the GPU?

P.S. If this motherboard is going to be an issue, would switching to an ATI Radeon HD 680i LT SLI help?

So, you’re actually planning on using that rig for overclocking? Well, fair enough—I suppose there’s no sense in arguing over personal preference, right?

It's been a while since I checked, so let me consult my crystal ball...
How are we supposed to figure out what the absolute maximum overclock is for this specific motherboard???
And more importantly, do you really think it's worth the effort? For modern gaming, a dual-core setup is already pushing its limits, don't you think?

Look, if you're truly that obsessed with pushing the limits through overclocking, maybe just pick up a newer Celeron instead. At least if you end up frying something, the damage won't be quite as devastating...

1. Has anyone here managed to push an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 to 2.7 GHz on an ASUS P5N-D?
2. Just curious, what are the typical maximum temperatures for a Q6600 paired with an 8800GT across most brands? I'd love some insight.

1. Let's see if this works. If you think you can just tell someone, "Hey, I overclocked him to 3GHz," while only bumping the FSB to 333, then you're mistaken ☕
2. Google 👍

Hey everyone, I just had to jump on here and share some news because I'm feeling pretty pumped! I finally managed to push my E4500 to 2.76 GHz, and I even got the memory running at 720 MHz from its 667 base. To be honest, I was a little nervous about pushing things this far, but I took the plunge anyway and it actually worked out!

You aren't a rookie anymore ☕

What voltage are you running that CPU at? Is it on stock settings?

Maybe try dialing it back a little. It shouldn't run quite as hot that way.

At 1.39v, my CPU temperature is sitting at 47 degrees Celsius. I’m not using any fancy high-end cooling setup right now, just a standard Zalman cooler—I can't quite remember the exact model off the top of my head, but I'll let you know which one it is in a bit. I definitely know what a decent one costs $127

I would suggest trying to lower the voltage. You can adjust the voltage settings within the BIOS and then test the system stability from there. That's essentially how you find the limit—by seeing just how low you can go. It should help drop those temperatures, which theoretically extends the lifespan of the processor.

How low should I actually go with this? I'd love to hear any recommendations you might have!

I don't have any specific recommendations. Just keep reducing it until you find the point where the processor remains stable.
