PC Modding

Hey,
Look, I’ve always had a massive appreciation for a clean build—properly painted chassis, killer lighting, all that good stuff.
I was thinking we should start a dedicated thread here for exactly that.
If you've got a custom rig (and I mean *your* rig—don't just go grabbing photos from the internet => show us what you actually built), post a picture so we can talk shop.

Mine started out as a basic white case, but I spray-painted the exterior matte black and went with a blue theme for the interior. I picked up some plexiglass at the local hardware store and gave that a custom coat too. I had to drill the fan holes myself and smooth them out with a jigsaw. For lighting, I used those Sharkoon 2 10cm UV strips, and I grabbed my cables from Newegg. You can't see it clearly in the shot, but I actually swapped out the standard HDD activity LED for a bright blue one I salvaged from an old lighter; now, when I'm gaming, the whole room flashes blue (you can see the light hitting the wall). There's also an 80mm fan in the front that I picked up from some random shop downtown...

Honestly, mad respect to anyone who actually finds joy in messing around with a PC case....
To me, it just feels a bit pointless—not "stupid," per se, but I just don't see the big deal. At the end of the day, it’s what’s under the hood that counts; the exterior look is just an irrelevant link in the chain if you ask me... I don't know...

Hide those cables—try some UV lighting, maybe engrave some acrylic...

people just cut out a side panel
slap some plexiglass and LED strips on there
throw in a couple more neon lights and suddenly they think they've actually modded something

if you ask me, real modding is when you transform a case until it's unrecognizable or you just build the whole damn thing from scratch...

Now this is what I call a legit PC Modding project (though honestly, it looks more like something straight out of Fallout than Half-Life)

Joseph Carter9, just like gentlelynx9 mentioned earlier, you really need to do something with those cables. A plexiglass side panel and two LED lights aren't exactly groundbreaking. Since you already have a clear view of the interior, why not make it actually look like something?

You've got way more room to work with on his setup than he thinks.
Personally, I’d etch something directly onto the plexiglass.
I'd mount a UV cathode on the side—then take some UV paint and fill in the etching.

Honestly, it looks incredible when you use UV paint to highlight the traces on a motherboard.
Then just tuck a UV cathode right next to it.

To me, buying those glowing fans is just a waste—they're too loud and they don't actually provide any real aesthetic value.
I started modding my own case, but I lost interest halfway through—so that project is currently on standby.

"Mod" is just short for modification—basically any change you make to the original setup. It’s all about what someone wants or needs, I guess. Maybe don't be so hard on the guy.

Joseph Carter9, like Jed already told you, try doing something with the cables. A plexiglass side panel and two LED lights isn't exactly groundbreaking. Since you went through the trouble of adding a transparent panel, you might as well make the internals look like they actually belong in a high-end rig.

Yeah, sure, you're all talk. It’s easy enough to just drop a link to some case some random guy customized. I’m more interested in seeing what *yours* looks like. I bet you've got it hidden under your desk where nobody can see it.

The point of this thread is for you to post a photo of YOUR OWN CASE.

And leave mine out of your critiques; I'm perfectly happy with what I built.

So, I’m currently stuck with this mediocre black case—nothing fancy, just a plain old box—and there’s this glaring gap in it. Basically, I’m missing the filler plate for the old CD-ROM drive bay... and now I'm at a bit of a crossroads. I can't decide if I should just patch it up with something cheap, or if I should go all out and actually attempt some serious PC Modding instead.

And please, I beg you, start writing in American
