darkowl72 said:it's a small world... 😉he'll be happy once I'm done; I pulled 3.2GHz out of an OC attempt with pretty decent temps, so he could probably push it even higher...

Anyway, something's bugging me... I ran into this exact same thing with my Intel Core 2 Duo until I stumbled upon a specific combo that fixed it...

Everything works perfectly fine—reboots, cold boots, all good. But the second it goes into hibernation, it freezes up. The fans ramp up to full speed, super loud, and everything just hangs. Black screen. At that point, I have to flip the switch on the power supply because nothing else helps... Then when I reboot, it acts like it's "resuming Windows" but uses default settings instead. I can't tell if it's the motherboard or just some bad hibernation settings.

I hate quoting myself, but whatever...

So, the issue is waking up from hibernation...

Can someone explain to a dummy like me what the actual difference is between S1 and S3 suspend states? I mean, I think I get the concept, but this wake-up issue only happens when the BIOS is set to S3. If I switch it to S1, everything works flawlessly.

I’ve managed to hit 3.8GHz with a voltage of just over 1.16V—and I honestly think I can push it even lower since I haven't touched the other voltages yet. I'm running DDR at 1000MHz with a BOX fan spinning at 2106rpm. My big question is: is it possible to push the Front Side Bus past 1600? It won't stay stable once I go over that limit, and I'm trying to wrap my head around why. My humble goal is to hit the 4 GHz mark!😍 If anyone has any tips, I'm using an ASUS P5QL Pro and Kingston 800MHz RAM. During a two-hour stress test using both Orthos and OCCT, the CPU temps stayed steady at 55°C.

Can someone walk me through some easy steps for overclocking a Quad 6600 using just a stock cooler? I've never messed around with this stuff before and I'm a bit worried about breaking something.

Would anyone mind actually reading the sticky tutorial before jumping in here to ask about overclocking?

Honestly, just play around in the BIOS if you aren't quite sure what you're doing. That's basically how I learned to overclock! 😁

Just drop the link then, I'll give it a read.

Well, I messed around and didn't actually achieve anything. Now I have no clue what voltage settings or whatever else I need to tweak.

When you find yourself unable to boot into Windows or if you're struggling to get a specific benchmark to run stably, that’s usually the moment when you need to start adjusting the voltage.

So, I was just tweaking things and set the FSB to 300 with an 8x multiplier. I let the BIOS handle all the voltage settings automatically, hit save, and everything seemed fine. The PC restarts once like it should, but then it just triggers another restart and resets everything back to the default settings... I don't get it.

Just read the tutorial. This guy is nothing but a pure spammer.

Come on, someone give me a little attention here—I could use a bit of praise!😍 For crying out loud, this is actually my very first attempt at overclocking.

Alright, I managed to overclock my processor to 2800MHz. Just to be clear, I'm running a Quad 6600 with the stock cooler... everything is running smoothly, but it's definitely running hotter now. I'm wondering if these temperatures are actually normal?

Temperature
Motherboard 43 °C (109 °F)
CPU 37 °C (99 °F)
1. CPU / 1. core 51 °C (124 °F)
1. CPU / 2. core 49 °C (120 °F)
1. CPU / 3. core 48 °C (118 °F)
1. CPU / 4. core 48 °C (118 °F)
WDC WD3200AAKS-75VYA0 27 °C (81 °F)

But have you considered testing that under a heavy load? For instance, maybe by using Intel TAT?

I ran some tests and it hits a max of 72 degrees at 100% load... works perfectly.

I’ve finally managed to get this rig stabilized... currently running at an x13 multiplier with the FSB sitting at 230 MHz, the HT link at 800, and DDR at 800, all while keeping the voltage at 1.375 V. It’s humming along quite nicely at 3 GHz. As for temperatures, they aren't much different from when I was running everything at stock settings—maybe just a few degrees higher, hovering around 48-50°C at idle and peaking at about 58°C under load. I’m pretty satisfied with the results, though I’d certainly prefer to hit a stable 3.2 GHz if possible.

Got an AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core 5200 here. How much headroom am I looking at for overclocking?
running at 2.71 GHz

AMD chips generally struggle to match Intel when it comes to overclocking..

Even the top-tier AMD isn't outperforming an E4500 @ 3.3GHz in Super Pi.

And don't even get me started on the Intel Core 2 Duo E8xxx series...

AMD Athlon 64 X2, bumped it from 2.71 up to 3.40 and it's holding steady (mostly). Still gotta tweak some stuff to see how the temps look
At 3.50 GHz the monitor starts acting possessed, so I might try bumping the voltage

Peace and happy overclocking
