It looks like it should be happening this Monday, though I’m honestly not expecting much out of 3DMark06—maybe a little something from 05 if I'm lucky...
But on the bright side, I managed to get Pi under 13 seconds! 😉

It all sounds absolutely wonderful on paper, really, truly... but if you ask me, it feels like a total waste of cash... I mean, what am I actually going to get out of it? Maybe my beach towel will be an extra couple of inches longer for a few days, but that’s about as far as the benefits go...😁 😁 😁

😲
He'll probably just grab an E6700...😉
Let's set up some kind of competition, maybe a Pi benchmark or something...🤷

Is the stock cooler that comes with the E4500 actually decent enough for some light overclocking? To put it simply, I want to grab the CPU, tweak it a little without cranking up the voltage (keeping it at 3.0), and call it a day. Or am I wasting my time unless I pick up a Typhoon cooler?
ModelProcessor 2×2.2GHz
SocketLGA 775Clock Speed2x2.2GHz
FSB800MHzCache (L2)2 MB
Included Cooler: Heatsink and Fan included
People say it's unnecessary:

So, here’s how it’s looking... I’ve got my GT overclocked and I’m running Crysis at 1024x768 on High settings—well, except for the post-processing, which I had to dial back to Medium just to be safe—and honestly, man, it looks absolutely stunning... quite a leap from when I was struggling with the GTS and having to settle for everything on Medium just to get a decent frame rate...
And honestly, Vegas is running absolutely flawlessly on everything I throw at it... which is a massive relief because things were getting pretty bumpy back when I was trying to run GTS...
If I had to take a wild guess—and I’m definitely just eyeballing this one, mind you—I’d say it’s running about 15% faster... 🙂
And just who exactly is going to be stepping up to the plate for this one? If you ask me, it looks like it’s just going to be the two of us...

northerncrane33 As if I haven't heard this one before... says wiredmarlin5...
Hey, I was just sitting here thinking that we should really get a competition going together, maybe something centered around Pi or even some other fun little challenge like that... wouldn't that be just wonderful?🤷

It’s honestly a bit depressing that we’ve reached a point where Crysis is basically the universal benchmark for whether a system is actually powerful or not...
So, how are you holding up with that 8800gts? Are you forced to run everything on medium settings just to keep it playable?
I find myself playing on medium too, though if I remember correctly, the x1950 isn't even close to being as good as the gts-ice...
Edit: Okay, I can pull it off too, but my Pi score is sitting at a pretty mediocre 18-19.😁

I’d say you could probably hit around 4.1GHz on air if everything goes perfectly...

Well, I'm playing on medium myself, and from what I recall, the x1950 isn't quite as strong as the GTS series...
But wait, how is that possible? I can actually run things on high at 1600*1200, much like that one guy using a 2600PRO... I simply cannot bring myself to play anything if the frame rate dips below a solid 30FPS...

Ugh... 👍 my kid is running the demo on his GTS card at medium settings and it actually looks pretty damn good at 1280x1065... but man, I can only imagine... it's definitely choking the CPU. Feels like an Athlon 64 x2 4000+ is struggling to breathe... I'm gonna have to upgrade that setup... 😁

darkowl72 said:Ugh... honestly, I just can't even begin to describe the feeling right now... it's just one of those days where everything seems to hit all at once, you know? 👍 My son has been running the demo on his GTS card, keeping everything set to medium settings, and I have to say, it looks absolutely stunning at 1280x1065... but then again, I can't help but wonder... is it actually choking out the processor? I get this nagging feeling—it’s probably an Athlon 64 X2 4000+ or something similar—that the whole system just isn't quite "breathing" right under the load... I think I'm definitely going to have to tinker with that setup soon... 😁
Is it actually true? I mean, I just spent some time running a few tests myself... comparing the jump from 3GHz to 3.5GHz... and honestly, you wouldn't believe it, but the difference is genuinely noticeable, especially when I was pushing Crysis...
Honestly, if you took an E2160 or even an E2180 overclocked to 3GHz and paired it with a used 965, they’d probably put in a much better performance than what we're looking at here... though, I suppose saying that now might be stretching the truth just a little bit too far...
shadowjackal29 said:wiredmarlin5, what on earth does "na zrak" actually mean in this context...? I was sitting here pondering the nuances of the language, trying to wrap my head around the sheer breadth of such an expression, and it really makes you wonder how much gets lost in translation when we aren't being precise... it's such a curious little phrase, isn't it?
So, if we're talking about sticking with air cooling, I feel like I could probably push the limits a little further if I had some liquid nitrogen on hand to really dial things up...

We’ll round up some candidates—you, Mike, the kid😁(he’s not on the chat)—but we’re all just gonna get wrecked by that guy who’s overclocking like a maniac... uffffffffff
#1518 ·
Man, if we try to go up against Beo, we don't even stand a chance... they'll probably just snap up an extreme version of C2D just to leave us in the dust! 🙂 🙂

Zachary Bishop8 said:Alright, here's my setup: a 20-inch BenQ monitor
running an Nvidia 8800 GTS and an Nvidia 8800 Ultra (SLI setup)
with a 500 GB hard drive
powered by an Intel Core processor 2 Extreme QX6800 @ 2.93 GHz
on an Abit Fatal1ty motherboard or something similar
plus a Logitech g11
I pushed the clock speeds to the absolute limit. I'll post the actual specs again later...
Later.👍 😛
There it is...😂

No way, that's incredible! It hit 3 seconds flat—it was pushed right to the limit 👍
By the way, how is it even possible to overclock a monitor? I mean, I understand doing it with a keyboard, but a monitor...
