Romance in movies is totally played out!

I’ve noticed that almost every single movie these days includes some sort of romantic subplot that is just completely sucked dry—it’s tired, pathetic, and honestly... just gross. argh!!
Does that drive you people crazy as much as it does me? It ruins the entire experience of nearly every film I watch..!
For franchises like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, there really shouldn't be any romance involved, yet they insist on forcing it in anyway!
Well, at least we don't have to deal with it in Alien (thank God for small mercies)...

While I’m certainly a fan of romance and those classic romantic comedies, I have to admit you've hit the nail on the head... It feels incredibly forced when a gritty horror flick or a high-stakes action thriller tries to squeeze in a little love story; it just ends up feeling cheesy and hollow. 🙄

I mean, sure, romance is totally played out at this point... what are they actually going to give us? If there’s any shred of romance left, it better be wrapped up in some cynical, ironic package just so we don't end up with that nauseatingly sweet aftertaste in our mouths. Because let's face it, we all prefer a little bitterness anyway.
The real question is whether the gore is still fresh. As long as the brains and guts are splattering across the big screen, we aren't left with any lingering sweetness to deal with.

Man, I’m just sitting here waiting for someone to actually get smart and "innovate" within the realm of romance... We desperately need some innovation in this area!! 👋

And what do today's high-and-mighty directors think—that it's totally normal for guys like Jack Nicholson, Sean Connery, or Clint Eastwood to hit on women half their age... it happens in basically every single movie...

I was scrolling through some reviews for Predator and Commando on Rotten Tomatoes the other day. One critic basically said there wasn't even a hint of romance in either movie. They actually seemed shocked that there were even women in the cast. Honestly? I'm fine with that. You have to be able to tell the difference between mindless action and an actual drama that needs a romantic subplot.

Personally, all those Area 51 setups, technical marvels, starships, whatever...
they're just scenery. They're just frames to tell a human story—and honestly, what better way to tell a human story than through romance? Sure, there's a thin line between something being heartfelt and something being cheesy, but hey, I'd take a little cheesiness in Star Wars over a cold, hollow flick filled with nothing but machines and gunfights. In that sense, a movie like Stormtroopers is pointless without any heart (it's almost ironically empty).

As for romance in movies, I can't stand it either. Especially when they force that garbage into films where it just doesn't belong.

It’s all because of those mindless Hollywood studios that just love messing up good movies—honestly, I don't even want to get started on those cliché American endings🙂

Look, Rambo is the king of mindless action, but fair point. Predator is easily one of the best action movies out there. Total tangent, but I had to say it.
