I still remember the day I smashed my piggy bankβand my brotherβs tooβjust to head down to the one local music shop in town. I walked in there soaked to the bone, sounding totally unsure of myself while asking for a
"R. E. M."
tape. "Who?" asked the guy behind the counter, sporting the most ridiculous mustache and the saddest hair I've ever seen.
"R... E... M..." I tried again, my voice cracking just a little.
"Look, I don't have any 'R-E-M' here, and neither does anyone else, because that band probably doesn't even exist... haha, you're actually trying to pull a prank on me? Yeah, I see how it is..."
"I'm sorry, do you maybe have R. E. M.?"
"Ah, well, we definitely have them. They're a total classic, you know..."
I didn't dare step foot in that shop again for a whole year.π
