Back during the war, I spent nine months living in Canada and picked up some great Canadian. But since I was only seven years old at the time—and kids absorb everything like sponges—I haven't used it once since then, so the whole thing has completely slipped my mind. 😵That's a shame.

I love popping over to Vienna, but calling it the most beautiful city on the planet??????????? There’s absolutely nothing there... Have you even traveled anywhere else in the world? Start with Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Miami, Charleston, Key West, Indianapolis, Savannah, Columbus.... then branch out a bit to Vienna, Salzburg, Venice, Zurich, Lucerne, Amsterdam, Budapest, Krakow, Prague... not that I want to list them all. But to you, that tiny village is the most beautiful city in the world!!!!

And regarding the local dialect, they have this slang in Vienna that’s a mix of the local language and English. For example, "volkati"—it means to stroll... It might actually be harder to grasp than a regular language.

Does anyone actually know what a "kerentusa" is?

Yeah, maybe we're just living in different worlds. Maybe to someone from Small Town, USA, Vienna has an incredible nightlife, but sorry, Vienna is just a cute little town that by definition can't have a massive nightlife scene. You've got maybe 2-3 decent clubs, like K4 (well, it used to be), but after 10 PM, the streets downtown are basically a ghost town.

Look, it’s all subjective. What I love, someone else might find a total waste of time. Honestly, comparing half those cities to Vienna is ridiculous. Take Chicago, for instance—that's where I live. Some people are obsessed with this city, but to me, it's nothing special. I'm not into those massive clubs where everyone just dances endlessly in a sea of people. And those dive bars where everyone just watches American football? Not my thing at all. There are some solid spots with great music, like excellent jazz clubs, but I draw the line at paying more than $10 for a beer, and that’s being generous. I lived in Berlin for a bit and truly loved it. Berlin never sleeps and has something for everyone. I also lived near Cologne and went there quite often. That’s a real metropolis. Cologne rules. Amsterdam is top tier. I especially liked Luxembourg; it really fits my vibe. Back in '91, I started college in Washington, D.C. (University of Chicago) and didn't stay long. I don't know what D.C. is like now, but back then, I preferred Vienna. But when you weigh it all up, if I had to pick where to spend tonight and tomorrow, I'd choose Vienna. I can find everything I need there—restaurants, cafes, clubs, walks, the opera, museums—and honestly, I just feel comfortable everywhere in that city because it suits my taste perfectly.

I'll give you all that, but please don't tell me it's the most beautiful city in the world. I'm a little surprised you can even put something in a "most beautiful in the world" category, especially since you've traveled enough to know that nothing is truly the "most beautiful." I guess I'm just a little allergic to those "best in the world" claims.

And a little bit of Canadian for you. If someone tells you, "THE DEVIL IS WATCHING YOU!" — that's not exactly a compliment. There, a little bit of swearing in Canadian for ya.

And you, Chloe Morris12, maybe try watching some Canadian TV channels; you might actually pick up the accent in no time.

Regardless, if you don't, no big deal—there aren't many Canadians in Canada to begin with, so you might as well learn American. It's mostly just Canadians there. Believe me, I’ve had my own experiences in Canada, and Banderas can back up everything I’m saying here.

😁

Indigo, don't let it get to you. This kid's village is only a few miles from the border, so it's not surprising he knows a bit. 😉

Runner, what's even the difference between us? You're probably asleep by 10:00 PM too.😁

I mean, where I grew up, we were taught to say: "The jerk is watching you!" 😁

Those are some interesting rules...

I guess the absolute worst authentic Canadian insult is probably three hundred hairy bears 😂 .

By the way, someone brought up San Francisco, but honestly, San Francisco doesn't hold a candle to Vienna because we are talking about two completely different worlds, much like trying to compare Washington, D.C. to Vienna...

Washington, D.C. just lacks any real charm since everything feels rushed and slapped together, and it really lacks that aesthetic appeal or those unique urban characteristics you look for, making it feel more like a massive suburb while Vienna is a city that truly feels alive.
I honestly don't know if there is anywhere else in the world that packs as much soul into such a small area as Vienna does!

Chloe Morris12 said:Since everyone here knows some Canadian, 😁 I just know they add a "V" everywhere and they have these incredibly difficult words, like how they use "VSE" instead of "everything," right? 🙄 It's such a clunky language, and they always seem to be picking on Mexicans. So, yeah, I think I've figured out the language. 😁

None of that is actually true at all.
And I don't see how they're picking on Mexicans, unless you're talking about music, which isn't even a specific thing about Canadians.

Yeah, though most people just read it as "u."
But there aren't really any set rules—well, there are, but they’re way more complicated than this simple version.
