Pirates of the Caribbean (2003)

wow I just finished watching this movie and honestly, it was great. It’s fun and packed with action. And obviously, Johnny Depp is the law—he absolutely crushed it 🙂

All in all, I highly recommend checking it out 🙂

🙂 Who’s actually seen this yet? I’m not sure if it has even hit theaters here in the States, but they are running ads for it constantly on TV over in Canada. Judging by the trailers and those little snippets they show, it looks like one of those movies that might actually be worth watching—so I’m pretty much counting down the days until it finally arrives in America.

Pirates of the Caribbean?! I finally had a chance to sit down and watch it, and honestly, I can't recommend it enough. It isn't anything groundbreaking, but it is incredibly fun from start to finish. Johnny Depp is absolutely brilliant as Captain Jack Sparrow 👍 👍 👍

I've been finding myself liking Johnny Depp more and more lately—just to be clear, I'm not confused about that.😉 He’s easily one of the better actors out there. 👍

I had such a blast watching this movie! Honestly, I don't regret spending nearly three hours on it at all...
I totally agree that Johnny Depp is absolutely phenomenal as Captain Jack Sparrow.
And let me tell you, Orlando Bloom is just breathtaking, and for anyone who thinks an English Rose is anything less than stunning, they clearly haven't seen Keira Knightley.👍

Hey Betty Wright64... out of a million girls, surely you could've found one decent looking. Plus, compared to Depp, Orlando looks like a cheap print of a Murilov painting on some toilet paper. 😁

The movie itself is good. Everything's been done before—the flags, the cliff jumping (minus the sharks), cannon fights, snatching treasure, being stuck on a secret island, all that stuff. It just feels more interesting because we haven't seen this specific style in a while. The acting isn't anything special, though. Depp holds his own, but the rest of the cast? Not so much. I really hope there isn't a sequel.

That said, those two and a half hours flew by thanks to the action and plenty of laughs.

Honestly, I was only really talking about Johnny Depp when I mentioned his acting... 😉
And when I say Orlando Bloom is absolutely delicious, I’m definitely not referring to his talent on screen, but rather other qualities... 😁

Wait, isn't she that blonde girl from "Bend It Like Beckham"? I mean, sure, she’s not bad looking... but honestly, my mind keeps wandering back to that famous quote from that director in Hong Kong, Ringo Lama, when he was asked about working with Jean-Claude Van Damme; he basically said, "She looks great... but she acts like absolute garbage." 😁 😁 😁

Personally, I think the trailer looks pretty solid. I’m actually giving it a thumbs up just because it managed to pull in a massive chunk of change outside of the USA, which is impressive. Plus, the cast isn't half bad—some of them are genuinely great actors, even if others are clearly there for different reasons.

I'm definitely planning to check it out, if only for the pure entertainment value.

Comedy, action, romance, horror... whatever you want to call it, I actually really liked this one. A few solid jokes here and there, some playful energy from Johnny Depp, a very attractive Keira, a sleepy-looking Orlando Bloom, and a routine Russell Crowe all jamming through an hour and a half of pure fun. Definitely worth a watch. Personally, I got the most out of the scenes featuring those old sailing ships. The Black Pearl, right?

Good grief, I’ve had this movie sitting in my digital library for over a month now and I still haven't even pressed play. Lately, I've become incredibly picky about what I watch—I tend to hunt things down online before they even hit theaters here in the States, but since I'm constantly accumulating this massive pile of files, that old magic of just sitting down and getting lost in a film has completely vanished. Now, it feels like nothing more than a chore or some mindless routine, assuming I can even find a spare moment to actually sit through it.

I actually saw the teaser on CNN back like two months ago, and let me tell you, what triggered my sudden salivary gland overload and made me want to sprint to the next state over was Johnny Depp with dreadlocks!!!! Who?! Orlando Bloom?! Please, he isn't even half as talented as Depp's dirty toenails! 😁

I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews—supposedly a total blast.

One thing I’m trying to wrap my head around, though: since everyone is going to be back in town—students finishing up, folks returning from their winter breaks—when do they actually plan on dropping a decent movie in theaters? Are we looking at December 1st?

Down here in Birmingham, Pirates of the Caribbean hit theaters yesterday.
The movie didn't really blow me away. The rest of this post is strictly for those who’ve already seen it, so if you haven't, consider yourselves warned: SPOILER, SPOILER, SPOILER!
Did I somehow sleep through the plot, or did they seriously fail to explain why those damn people need the blood of that specific pirate or his son?
It's just pointless. It’s so typical of modern Hollywood movies—the actual foundation of the story gets thinner and thinner every year. Also, it wouldn't have hurt to explain why the entire crew of the Black Pearl decided to mutiny against Captain Jack Sparrow in the first place. Usually, in a mutiny like that, the crew is split down the middle, or you see evidence that the captain is an absolute piece of trash and everyone turns on him. In this case, there isn't even a hint of either happening. Third, while they look great visually, those fights with the cursed guys in the final scenes are totally ridiculous. The second those soldiers realized they couldn't kill them, they should have just turned tail and run. One of the literal definitions of insanity is repeatedly doing the exact same thing while expecting a different result, yet they just won't quit. If the curse hadn't been lifted mid-battle, those cursed guys would have slaughtered them all. And don't even get me started on Jack Sparrow and that pirate captain chasing each other around like two idiots for half an hour, knowing perfectly well they can't achieve anything as long as that curse is active. For a split second, they actually reminded me of Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep in Death is a good place to stand, except at least their punches actually left a mark.
