I had the exact same issue. My contacts got so dry they started irritating my eyes to the point where I couldn't even manage a few hours a day... honestly, I looked like a total vampire.😁

Now I just stick to glasses and clip some sunglasses over them, though I suppose I should probably consider getting those prescription shades instead.

I don't want to start a whole new thread since my question was already covered in the opening post, but since I didn't get much of an answer there, let's try this again. Maybe I'll have better luck five years down the line...
So, how does one actually identify a good balance between quality and price when buying sunglasses? Just glancing through the lenses doesn't help me distinguish Ray-Bans from some cheap knockoff at a flea market. 😁
If you have any experience with this, please weigh in. I genuinely need a pair, but I refuse to pay a premium just for a logo.

Personally, that seems a bit steep to me... I managed to get my prescription sunglasses for less than $267. Granted, I had to spend quite some time searching, but cheaper options definitely exist out there.
Most optical shops will naturally try to upsell you on the most expensive frames available. However, in my experience, there isn't actually a massive difference in the quality of the lenses themselves.

Most places like LensCrafters or Pearle Vision are just gonna try to upsell you on the premium stuff, obviously. But honestly? I don't think there's actually that much of a difference in lens quality once you get past the basic brands.

I am quite fond of eyewear myself. If I actually had the funds, I would probably own a hundred different pairs of frames by now. However, as much as I enjoy them, I try to be practical and hunt for the best deals whenever I shop. 🙂 Once I find myself in a more prosperous position—an optimist, I suppose—I will certainly allow myself to be a bit more extravagant.🙂

I’d definitely suggest checking out Optika -50 over on Broadway, right near the loop area. I actually went there about three years ago to pick up some designer frames and—honestly—I’m still obsessed. Plus, I scored a massive 50% discount, which was such a win. They seem to have thousands of different styles to choose from, and the quality is top-tier. How can I be sure my lenses actually have UVA/UVB and other necessary protections? Is checking the certificate the only way, or are there other methods? Also, what’s the ballpark price for entry-level glasses that feature high-quality lenses—meaning they actually provide real sun protection?

Regarding frames with a brand name, they cost about $100-$$100 at wholesale, yet opticians charge five to ten times that amount. It’s actually a great retail niche because you're essentially selling hype, though they are certainly better than cheap drugstore glasses.
I have been wearing Ray-Bans for two years now. My only gripe is the lack of polarization; when the sun hits my eyes directly, visibility becomes an issue.
You should decide between sticking with Ray-Ban or choosing a company that actually specializes in eyewear, rather than brands like Diesel or Puma. Those companies produce everything from flip-flops to bags and shoes, so their eyewear is really just a fashion accessory.😉
If you are going to spend the money, make sure you get a pair with polarization.

I have them. They were a bit $833, but since the frames were designer, they were pricey to begin with.

My lenses are standard: tinted with UV protection. You can get them with a bunch of extra "features" and various other gimmicks—honestly, most of it seemed useless to me, so I just went with basic tinted UV lenses and paid $133.
Bottom line: if you buy decent, affordable sunglasses and pair them with standard lenses, you won't break the bank.

I’ve been wearing prescription sunglasses for years now, and let me tell you, my track record with frames is a total disaster. I’ve smashed one, had a kid sit on another, lost a pair entirely, and most recently? A complete screw-up by the hacks at LensCrafters. This was the first time I actually dropped serious cash on a high-end frame, only for those incompetent idiots to warp the frame and mess up my cylinder measurements. It was a straight-up catastrophe. They wouldn't even admit they screwed up—except for the cylinder issue—and they refused to give me my money back. My prescription is -2.75 with a slight cylinder. This whole ordeal ended up costing me a fortune $0.83. Each lens was roughly $167 and the frame alone was $1,500. Total waste

Now I have to start the whole process over because these pathetic, botched glasses have already started falling apart on me within a year; they practically slide off my face every time I turn my head. I need a decent optician in San Francisco or maybe near San Jose who actually knows what they're doing and can fix this right. Does anyone have a recommendation?
