What are your first impressions after giving this a spin?

Karen O is basically the powerhouse art-punk queen here—easily one of the freshest female vocals to emerge from the distortion of the 21st century.

George Orwell, I swear—I just can't seem to stumble upon a single modern band lately that isn't absolutely soul-crushing in its boredom...

I'm obsessed. Grrl power has never felt this damn gritty... though I guess Christina Aguilera could probably give them a run for their money if she wanted to.

YYY are basically tailor-made for export to the USA
after The Strokes and The White Stripes (who aren't to blame at all—in fact, they’re an incredible band)
there's still plenty of other stuff out there, like The Beach Boys
the price? a total steal...

Honestly, they're just your run-of-the-mill revival band, nothing groundbreaking there. But man, the lead singer? She’s got some serious pipes.

I don't know... I'm not exactly blown away. Given how much hype there was surrounding them, I honestly expected something much better.

The Beatles are alright... I'm most into that first EP—you know, that trashy production, just two instruments 🙂, killer vocals.
I just downloaded the album and it didn't really stick with me as fast as the EP did.
The only thing I don't get is all the hype, or how they managed to become so massive after dropping a tiny fifteen-minute EP. But hey, this new NYC scene is definitely a breath of fresh air 🙂

What’s your take on this band? Everyone keeps calling them "The Next Big Thing"

Man, it's easy to see why people are talking...🙂

They actually work for me. They're high-energy—kind of a mix of Spencer and Sonic Youth—and Karen is absolutely wild. After spending way too much time listening to those super "mellow" bands lately, I really needed this dose of pure chaos in my ears.

Just so everyone knows—there’s actually a better band playing in Chicago too... Babies, obviously. 😉

Man or Monster isn't even close... Out of all those mindless punk/R&B bands, I actually love Steve McQueen (not because nobody else has heard of them 😁, but because they’re genuinely perfect). I haven't heard YYY, but since > decided to veer off-topic, I might as well suggest everyone hunt down the album "Ages 3 and up" by Supernova, even if you have to dig through Soulseek. It’s pure bliss! (I picked up the vinyl for $5.00, along with five other AmRep LPs for the same price... 😁)

Supernova, Chokebore - "Anything Near Water," "A Taste for Bitters," Love 666 - "Please Kill Yourself," Feedtime - "Billy"... Honestly, I lost count. Regardless, the whole lot was only ten bucks—you won't find a better deal than that. That's just how things are in the Midwest. Back in Indianapolis, I dropped $38 on some Transvision Vamp, Cave Kicking, and two Talking Heads releases, all of them crappy local pressings. One of the Talking Heads records is missing a track, and the Cave one is missing two (including "Black Betty," dammit!)... Unbelievable.

... I haven't even managed to listen to the rest yet, mostly because my piece-of-junk phone decided it has an issue with this record, skipping all over the place (even though there isn't a single scratch on it). Regardless, I'm a huge fan of Chokebore, and I really dig Love 666—though not quite as much as their first one, which is my go-to EC Disi noise rock 😁. As for Supernova, words just don't do them justice. The cover says "Thanks to those who truly believe," and honestly, I'm proud to say I'm one of them. 🙂

You could potentially play it through a cassette player using a dubbed tape. You might even score something from the B-side. 🙂
