I’m looking for some solid recommendations for a much fancier monitor. I need something at least 17 inches, though honestly, I don't care if it's massive or heavy, as long as the build quality is actually decent and not some cheap plastic junk.

Take a look at these IPS monitors and pick whichever one fits your budget best. My suggestion would be either the Samsung or the Apple if you're willing to stretch your budget just a little bit beyond $333.

Given the size constraints, that General Electric model down there is probably your best bet—a 23-inch screen for $313 should get the job done without any headaches. Generally speaking, almost all of those budget-friendly IPS monitors rely on an IPS matrix, which means whether you go with General Electric, Dell, or HP, you're looking at similar tech.

The cheaper Samsung models don't typically use IPS panels, though you have to watch out because some Samsungs still use TN panels, and they aren't exactly rare. However, Samsung has their own proprietary technology called IPS, which delivers image quality that is essentially on par with standard IPS LCD matrices.☕
