Mat screen protector for glossy laptop displays

I've got a Microsoft Surface, but I don't even use the touch feature—actually turned it off entirely... the glossy screen is just a nightmare because the glare makes it impossible to see anything in daylight.

I've been looking into those clear matte screen protectors you can overlay on the display, so I was wondering if anyone here has tried them? Any advice on which one to pick, or if it's even worth the hassle...

I’m sorry, but I have to wonder—is the issue actually the ambient light in the room, or is it just the glare from reflections? If the screen itself is too dim to begin with, a screen protector probably won't do much to help.

I've been browsing online and there are plenty of anti-glare films out there, but I have no idea which one is actually the best or if they even work... that's why I'm asking.

Man, I used to mess around with all those screen protectors and even those weird electrostatic films—you know, the clear plastic sheets you slap over a monitor using static electricity.

Honestly? Total waste of cash. Unless you're working in some dark corner where you don't have glare from a window or overhead office lights hitting your screen, it just doesn't do anything.
