Reddit chat room for Honey mods

Dear ☕ ,

Is being insulted by the moderation team actually allowed? Is this really how you guys treat users? I’ve been ignoring the nasty comments from your moderator, Jeremy Johnson18, up until now—but yeah, consider this my first official complaint.

We can all agree that the comedy here is bigger than a Python script. It’s ridiculous when topics get moved into the chat room, which has absolutely nothing to do with the actual discussion; it just creates total chaos and ruins the flow of everything written.
And to the user/mod involved—just look at what was written and how it went down. Don't act surprised that the whole thread is such a mess. There are clear reasons for it.

How am I even supposed to be hanging out in an off-topic section while simultaneously having to respond to things happening in the chat room?
It’s pure provocation—nothing more than his own reaction to moving the thread. Either that move is banned, or it’s being treated as if the mod is just "answering" someone.

I know Reddit doesn't have a massive staff, but I also don't think it's critical for you to keep someone who is clearly unprofessional and incompetent at moderating. This guy uses double standards for everything.
He deletes posts and insults people whenever they say something he doesn't like or disagree with... meanwhile, for the people he actually likes—the ones he suck ups to or tries to impress—he looks the other way and lets them do whatever they want on the site.

I’m asking that something be done about this individual so that everyone is held to the same rules. Especially since the admin—who represents this entire platform—should be the first one setting the standard for behavior. We shouldn't have to deal with random insults and nonsense like what's been posted here; honestly, the whole thread should have just been wiped.

Posts like that don't belong in this thread because they're killing the flow. I’m not even going to bother moving them to a separate sub-thread, since the quality of the conversation hasn't been worth the effort anyway.

My only options are to just delete your posts or move them to the chat room where they actually belong.
To avoid you lot whining again and claiming someone's suppressing your "freedom of speech," I’ve decided to go with the second option.

It’s no secret you're loaded with passive-aggression toward me, constantly looking for any opening to jump down my throat—which is pretty obvious from the thread you started.
Also, I don't see a single insult directed at you from my end, nor is it true that I've been talking to you like that. If I had, you would've filed a formal complaint a long time ago.

They don't actually belong to him; they're just general off-topic posts moved from the Craigslist thread. Since they were transferred chronologically, those messages have now bled into today's chat stream. We had a rather decent discussion developing in the chat room earlier, but it’s become nearly impossible to follow now that everything has been shuffled together into one big mess.

And those moved posts aren't even about beer or wine—at least not the ones from today—but rather whether Byron is a grouch and if people actually like his attitude or not.

I agree that moving them wasn't the smartest move, especially when it results in a pile of clutter being dumped right into the middle of a high-quality debate—clutter that might actually warrant a warning rather than being protected under "free speech."

As for how he responded to the comment, I won't dwell on it, though it was entirely consistent with the style Jeremy Johnson18 tends to favor. 🐔

I did the exact same thing yesterday with those off-topic posts in the astrology section—stuff about Nicole, cellulite, and all that—which basically sparked this whole debate in the chat room this morning.
I don't see how it caused any confusion; you can clearly tell who's talking to whom and what the argument is about. I just caught up on everything in the chat after the fact, once it had already been moved over, so I had no clue the conversation had actually started somewhere else.🙂

So, I'm asking the mods to address this—the rest of it is secondary, like I said.
(It’s also pretty interesting to see the same kind of behavior coming from the "privileged" crowd—specifically this staffer, Jeremy Johnson18. I'm really hoping the mods don't keep trying to dodge the actual question here.)

I suppose I don't personally categorize people on Reddit into "regular users" versus "moderators," though if forced to make such a distinction, I would hope that at least the same standards of communication applied to everyone. Personally, I have always looked to moderators to maintain a certain level of decorum—perhaps "professional" is the more accurate descriptor. 🤔

Having served as a moderator myself, I am well aware of how difficult the role can be; sometimes it feels impossible, but it remains a worthy goal. Being an asshole simply because you hold a position of power is easy, and frankly, anyone can manage that. 🤷

In any case, I cannot bring myself to agree with the notion of a "well-maintained and fit" response, whatever that might mean to you. 😬

Sure, they weren't exactly being polite, and honestly, it would be nice if they exercised a bit more restraint with comments like that, but it doesn't cross the line into harassment. Plus, from what I gathered, this whole thing started over in the chat room, and we all know that people tend to speak their minds a little more freely there. If we're going to let certain types of comments slide for some people, we can't just start playing favorites and selectively defending others.

As for moving posts over to the chat: I totally get why that might have felt a bit disruptive to whatever conversation was already happening there. But you have to keep in mind that chat threads are actually designed for this kind of thing. They're the perfect spot to move discussions that don't quite fit into the main forums—topics that aren't "heavy" enough to warrant their own dedicated thread, yet the moderators feel are interesting enough to keep going in a more casual setting. Chat rooms are basically fast-paced environments where people type a lot without getting too bogged down in deep dives, so a little "off-topic" noise—and I use quotes there because the chat itself is essentially one big off-topic zone—isn't really a huge deal.
