Just to be clear, my inbox is empty. No messages from administration. Reddit Didn't get it. Nothing. Official notice. Regarding the fact that there's a highly respected fellow Redditor here. (And he’s actually a pretty good friend of mine, too.) @HomerGive me a grade on my posts.

Just got a DM a few minutes ago informing me that you can't even put a standard moderator on ignore, let alone an honorary one.

On second thought, if that's the case, we might as well just lock this thread.

Moderators and everyone else.Forum moderators. Typical.You can't just hit ignore on work. You have to stay reachable for official notifications.
Just like you have to be available. For instance, via a residential address.The police, the IRS, the courts, and all that.

Is the option gone for good, or is it just broken?

I don't think it was ever repealed. I haven't the slightest clue..

As for how it actually works,
Most of us only log in when we actually have something to say. (And sending) posta.

Turns out the "ignore" function actually serves a purpose.* (Meaning it only "works" then.) Just code. Logged in. To those users who have someone on "ignore.".
'Utility' only has... heh... Ignorant.; Ignored. They won't even notice. Even if they realize they've been put on ignore, it won't matter.

*'The purpose of an "ignore" function. Simple enough. It filters out noise. It lets you decide what deserves your attention and what doesn't. Efficient.The phrase is a massive contradiction on public forums.

Most of us? Honestly, why would I bother logging in and out every single time I want to share a thought? What’s the point of all that extra friction?🤔

The ratio probably doesn't shift enough during the day to be anything other than consistent.

But fine. That was just my impression based on seeing everyone else's 'green lights' next to their usernames in the sidebar (mine is 'off').
I realize it’s not a perfect metric for real-time activity, but the 'general vibe' (even on high-traffic threads) definitely suggests there are more active lurkers than logged-in users...

Personally, I log out because I don't care to be 'anyhow' or 'accidentally'—intentionally or otherwise... (take this with a grain of salt) 'tracked'... by anyone currently browsing the site...

(Clunky wording, I know... but logging out is pretty much 100% why I do it)

I agree. Dealing with just the tip of the iceberg isn't enough. To actually solve this, you have to dive much deeper than the obvious surface-level nonsense.
