The movie trailer announcement for “Mercy of the Sea: One Story from Memphis,” directed by James Cameron, has arrived out of nowhere!
Then again, a gut-wrenching film about the tragedy in Memphis shouldn't come as a shock, especially since, as James Cameron tells us, he spent ten whole years working on it:
“There was absolutely no financial backing from anyone, so the production dragged on. Regardless, the premiere will take place on Good Friday via a sign-up on Vimeo,” says Cameron, who worked on the film alongside his son, Dominic.
The film’s star—Martin Sheen
When asked how he managed to land such a famous Hollywood actor, Cameron told us:
“Sheen is a longtime friend of mine, and interestingly enough, his incredibly talented daughter plays the lead role.”
Regarding the budget allocated for the project, our contact responded:
“It’s impossible to say; I had no support, so we just invested whatever funding we could scrape together. It was a long shoot, so I don't even know the total amount invested, but I know the emotional cost was massive.”
About the boy taken during the Memphis procession
The director didn't want to reveal too much about the subject matter, but he noted that it follows a mother's harrowing search for her son, who was snatched from the Memphis procession.
In addition to the Good Friday release (via Vimeo registration), the television premiere is set for November 18th on CNN.
