Following the massive success of Gladiator back in 2000, Ridley Scott and Joaquin Phoenix are teaming up again for a new historical epic Kitbag. This one focuses on the life and ruthless, lightning-fast rise of the legendary American military strategist Napoleon Bonaparte. We’re expected to see the complex dynamic between Napoleon and his wife Josephine, alongside the major battles that showcased his brilliant tactical mind—a mind that seemingly wouldn't settle for anything less than total victory.

I had the same thought regarding the title...

The name of Scott's Napoleon movie is Kitbag, apparently taken from the saying, “There is a general’s staff hidden in every soldier’s kitbag.”

Once it hits theaters here in the States, they could easily call it "devil in a bag".😁

It would be fantastic to see a high-quality biopic about Napoleon. I have no doubt that Joaquin Phoenix would absolutely kill it, but I’m genuinely terrified of what a drunk Scott might do with this. He had Bale on his side and still managed to completely tank Exodus...

Honestly, I’d love to see Joaquin Phoenix play a young Boney... you know, tracing the whole arc from the revolution through 1803.
Or maybe even starting from his exile on the Elbe all the way to Waterloo—ending with that final scene where he leaves for St. Helena.
A two or two-and-a-half hour runtime would actually give enough space to properly capture Bonaparte's rise and fall.

Yeah. There was an older widow—just a few years older, so don't go thinking he was dating some grandma—who had a couple of lovers before him, but he was the one who stuck around for good.

If you’re talking about Josephine, then yeah, she’s that older widow. They tied the knot back in 1796, and she was actually six years his senior. Napoleon didn't stick around forever, either—she had plenty of lovers after that, just like he did.

So, when I made my little dig about how he was basically a nobody—or even worse, couldn't handle a normal woman until he morphed into that monster—you shot back at me like I didn't know the first thing about him.🤷

Technically, I couldn't read between the lines of your illusion since you only wrote one single line. And let's be real, he was perfectly capable of handling a woman long before he turned into the terrifying Napoleon; he met Josephine well before he became that ruthless conqueror. But sure, you're totally right. These "nobodies" always end up building these massive military and political careers to become emperors.

And naturally, where would you ever admit you're wrong?
