Casey Flores said:You totally missed the point of my analogy. I wasn't talking about general elections where a bunch of special forces guys return the favor every four years by voting for the party that gave them those sweet $50k jobs in some tiny town out in the Midwest. I was talking about presidential races where candidates just run solely for their own interests. To me, that isn't even that immoral, but those guys are total scumbags, and voting for an album I suggested feels a bit like that. So, I’m with Charles Ramos4 on this one—my suggestion is my vote for that album, and it’s up to you all if you pick it or not.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be sneaky or start a fight about banning people from voting for their own picks. I'm just explaining why I personally would never cast a vote for an album I put on the table.

I am also referring to those presidential elections I mentioned earlier when I said "when they just vote for themselves."

Yeah, well, they aren't exactly writing that in parliamentary terms.

Gerald Jackson48 said:When I see someone pass up their own suggestion just to vote for someone else's—well, that tells me a few things. Either they’re absolutely certain their original pick is going to win anyway, or maybe they stumbled onto something even better than what they initially proposed. It definitely makes me second-guess my own take, too—especially if I don't already know the artist or the album very well.

Basically—I feel like if you're the one suggesting an album, you should actually be willing to stand behind it. I guess you should really own your picks.

Well, you're kind of making my point for me just by asking that. I mean—why would I even suggest an album if I didn't stand behind it? It goes without saying, really—it's all part of the same thing, I guess. 🤷

As for the first part of that post—it doesn't really apply to me. I guess I'm just an outlier in this case. 😁

As for the first part of your post, you've got me totally wrong there. 😁

Since I don't really know everyone on this forum—I mean, I know some people better than others—how am I supposed to know someone's specific motivation for suggesting an album? Unless they say it explicitly, I can only guess.

We've seen it happen before. Some people think you should only suggest albums you know inside and out, while others suggest stuff they've never even heard just to get to know it better. Why not?

There have been times when people voted for their own suggestions at first, then later decided to stop voting for themselves. Or maybe it worked the other way around. I honestly couldn't say.

Plus, some people knew exactly which album would win the most votes and just handed the topic over to someone else. Otherwise, it feels like everyone is just fighting for the spotlight and wanting to be the one to start the thread every single time.

I’ve suggested albums even when there wasn't much interest or enough suggestions to go around. Even then, I didn't care if my pick won the vote. I just didn't have the extra time to sit around and write up a whole new thread anyway.

Gerald Jackson48 said:Well, yeah, but you didn't specify congressional elections...

See, political elections aren't just about the President. You've got congressional races, local ones, all sorts of things... How was I even supposed to know you were specifically talking about the presidency?

Can we just move past this silly argument now?

I missed the window to cast my vote, but I fully intend to weigh in more frequently on this thread.

My pick goes to a Perfect Circle - Mer de noms (2000). As a massive Toolov enthusiast, anything involving Howerdel just resonates with me on a deeper level. The lyricism, the production quality, that seamless blend of genres... though, admittedly, certain albums require a very specific headspace.

It's because I mentioned "voting for yourself" and then kept going about how elections don't actually work that way literally. That's the core of my point. Honestly, the specific type of election doesn't even matter for the argument. Even with local preferential voting, you're still essentially voting for yourself, but getting bogged down in those tiny details just overcomplicates things unnecessarily.

Sure, we can stop. I mean, why stay in an argument you've already decided is stupid anyway?

I was gone for maybe two or three hours and look where you guys ended up. Anyway, back to the topic...

Charles Ramos4 said:Well, you’re already doing that just by making the suggestion. I mean, why on earth would I suggest an album if I wasn't standing behind it and supporting it? It seems obvious to me that those two things go hand in hand.🤷

I guess I basically agree with Charles Ramos4. Although, after a few rounds, I actually stopped voting for my own suggestions because it felt stupid. I think it's more important that we all listen to what the majority likes together, plus I'm genuinely curious to see how everyone else reacts to my picks. I'm happy either way, really.

Oh, but I totally broke that forced rule last time anyway and voted for Bruce Springsteen... because things were getting tight and I was hoping he might have a shot at tying with Led Zeppelin. I'm not sure if saying that is politically incorrect or whatever.
😁

So, I don't know. Maybe the voting rules shouldn't be quite so rigid. Honestly, it's probably best to just leave everything as it is for now. If someone wants to vote for their own suggestion or doesn't, I don't see any big deal with that.

Gerald Jackson48 said:Of course we can just stop talking... I don't even get why you're still pushing this debate if you think it's stupid in the first place?

Well, it only turned stupid because you completely lost the plot.

Yeah, I'm with you there. Personally, I think the voting principle is perfectly fine as it stands... no need to go changing things now.

Casey Flores I can't even begin to process this. It’s just wild. Everything is changing so fast, isn't it? Honestly, I was just sitting here thinking about how much things have shifted lately. You look back at how we used to do things, and now it feels like a completely different world. It's pretty crazy if you really stop to think about it. Anyway, what do you guys think? Is it just me, or is everyone else feeling this too?
She just lost her edge once you completely lost your way.

Yeah, I'm with you on that. The whole voting principle is solid. No need to mess with it.

It's Thursday, so let's get those suggestions rolling.
We can take up to ten ideas for the poll, so who's going first?

The Doors - The Doors (1967)

the whole album + allmusic + best live set ever

I'm throwing in another classic this time, probably one of my personal top 5 or 10. 🙂

I am a newcomer to this thread, so here is a suggestion. My usual rotation consists of old-school rock, blues, and soul. However, I will step away from those genres today to offer something else entirely—something I don't listen to much these days, despite a certain era of my life where electronic music defined everything during those wild nights out. This isn't strictly electronic; the album blends several styles together. It is likely a household name to many, yet somewhat overlooked now. One could spend hours debating the impact of this record and how it shifted an entire culture. Perhaps we all need an album like this right now, just as much as we did when it first hit the streets. Long live Primal Scream!

Adriano Banchieri - Albalonga, Anibal E. Cetrangolo – La Pazzia Senile (1598/1982)

Album cover

Full album

This thing falls under some niche genre called madrigal comedy. You can read more about it here
. I don't speak a lick of Italian, but I think it's about some guys in baggy pants. 🤔

Edit: Hard to say how this will go, but my bet is on this being a total flop. 🙏
