Two-day hospital stay

Bock, I’m Magdalena and I’m 11—well, technically 10 and a half, but my birthday is in three months, so I’ll be 11 then. 🙂 This Tuesday, I have to go to the hospital for surgery, and Mom told me they want me to stay for two days afterward for observation. That’s actually kind of a problem because sometimes, if I'm having a really unlucky week, I might have an accident in bed once or twice overnight. It happens about once a week. Mom said she’ll mention it to the staff at the hospital when we arrive, but I’m wondering: what will they actually do? Will they set up some kind of special plan for me, or will they just change the sheets if I have an accident and let me put on a fresh pair of pajamas, and that's it?

I'm thinking they might just give you a catheter, I've had one before, and that way you don't even have to worry about changing your pajamas or anything like that!

jadewalker59, you’ll likely need a catheter first due to those urination issues... once that's settled, we can prioritize the necessary tests, potentially looking into prostate concerns, incontinence, or even a UTI...

At your age, you probably should've already been dealing with prostate issues—they usually start showing up even before 21—so, if I were you, I’d probably suggest a quick trip to the doctor. 😲

Is that catheter actually going to hurt? lol. Why on earth did my cousin mess with me and say they’d have me in diapers before I even had to go to sleep?

First, tell me what kind of surgery you're actually having.
They usually provide them for elderly patients or anyone who can't get out of bed during recovery.
They’ll probably give you a diaper, or maybe nothing at all since you'd likely just soil the sheet—the mattress is heavily protected anyway.
And yeah, make sure you bring up that issue.

So, I have to undergo surgery called appendicitis. I don't actually know much about the procedure myself, though my parents do, and they've assured me it isn't anything to be terrified about. They said I'll only need to stay in the hospital for two days afterward, and then I can head home and get back to doing whatever I want. 🙂 But here is the thing: if they seriously try to make me wear a diaper, am I allowed to say no? It feels completely ridiculous because that's for little kids, and I'm almost eleven.

Look, if this bladder issue isn't related to the surgery, I’m telling you right now: get your parents to take you to a doctor for some real testing. Bedwetting at eleven years old isn't normal. You need actual medical exams to figure out if we're dealing with a physical issue or something psychological.

So, I’ve been to the doctor with my mom quite a few times, and she actually mentioned to her that this might be hereditary—apparently, both my parents dealt with the exact same thing when they were kids. Even though I’m perfectly healthy otherwise, there are just these moments where I can't wake up fast enough when I really have to go, and I end up wetting the bed instead.

I just got out of surgery and honestly? I feel fine xD It only hurts a little if I touch near the stitches, but nothing major 🙂 though I have to say, my nurse was being pretty ridiculous—she actually put me in an adult diaper just in case I leak while I'm sleeping, which left me feeling a bit annoyed. On the bright side, my mom brought me my laptop, so I can hang out on Reddit and watch YouTube, which makes these two days of recovery go by much faster.

Better to deal with diapers than a catheter. It isn't the end of the world; you'll manage. Good luck.

Oh, don't worry, I wasn't actually scared, haha! xD I'm already back home now and out of the hospital, though those two days really flew by. Honestly, I was just constantly annoyed because they made me wear a diaper around the clock—even during the day—since they insisted I might fall asleep and end up wetting myself 😢. I didn't manage to sleep through the day once, but I did have one unlucky moment where I ended up wetting the bed in the middle of the night. Just my luck, I guess.
