It’s honestly wild how fresh this still sounds even after 36 years—it blows most of its contemporaries out of the water, especially those derivative imitators we've seen popping up over the last 15 years. I've always been totally captivated by that sense of simultaneous dominance and submission in Marinin's vocals—it's just something else.
Simon & Garfunkel
I'm just... well, I'm here! That part of the chorus—just that one bit! That's great—I love how expressive and playful PTK is, but honestly? This version hits different. That "feminine" restraint mixed with just a hint of self-loathing is spot on for me. Just some boring life stories, really. 🙏
Today Only Woman; Ocean Eyes + Just daydreaming about my guy—honestly, life's better that way!

Man, this heat is brutal—there’s just something weird in the air today. I’ve been feeling totally unproductive and lazy all morning. Looks like my Saturday is going to be busy catching up on work 🙂

Same here, honestly. These transitions into spring are always rough.
But check out this band—even when they're rocking out, they have this incredibly soothing effect on you. We all know them, but maybe not for this specific track; it's a total gem from the overlooked Summer Sun.

Total agreement here...
I don't know why, but Mirzin popped into my head the other day too... 😁 even though everyone loves to claim they were the absolute worst disco band in the States. Honestly, it's probably just that wild contrast between Mirzin's vocals and those backing singers, plus they were hitting the scene right when disco was starting to feel a bit "out"...
The worst? Whatever. They were pure trash in the best possible way, which is totally ☕

What a load of trash. This track is easily better than that Boney M garbage and 90% of other disco songs out there. The lyrics aren't crap—they're actually clever—I mean, how many post-disco indie kids could even come up with "Permanently yours is my life"?

So 🤣 Just like that one other singer who goes, "Today it’s totally normal
to, say, not have a name like Joe?" 😬

Look, just listen to it objectively—even if the lyrics are total trash—the guitar, the chorus, the melody, the arrangement, and even those backing vocals (which honestly aren't any worse than some of the loud-mouthed mainstream stuff) are all top-tier.
If you hear some academic snob whining about the concept of a scruffy guy with two backup singers, just tell them to go screw themselves for me.
Jealousy is a nasty thing.

Look, I wasn't being sarcastic there. Mirzin is legendary just as he is.
And honestly, it’s not even about the hairy guy or those two... it’s the sheer concept of having an opera singer—a bass, no less!—in a disco band 😁 Why on earth didn't they send them to Eurovision?

What's the issue there? I actually didn't know that, but honestly, it'd be way weirder if it was a non-opera singer performing in an opera. Just imagine Lou Reed at the Met.😁
OT: Lou himself—killer album, easily my favorite work of his, and this track from it is top tier— Underneath The Bottle

Dennis Hall41 said:Why would that even be an issue? I had no clue about that fact, but honestly, I think the real disaster would be if some untrained singer tried to tackle an opera. Just imagine Lou Reed in an opera... what a mess!😁
Man, that would have been one hell of a show! 😁

Two top-tier examples of American music from the mid-2000s—specifically 2005.
It was a killer year, at least for the American singer/songwriter and indie-rock scenes—honestly one of the best eras I can remember, probably because I was 18 back then.
The brilliant Mary Gauthier in IT Ain't The Wind, It's The Rain,
and the old master John Hiatt with master of Disaster.
