I’m listening to the second, more upbeat part of the Island album. 😁 Starting from

(It never leaves me, just visits less often)
For some reason, I can't get this one out of my head. The lyrics are actually so moving—super simple, but they paint these vivid, lifelike pictures.
Ashtray is crowded, bottle is empty
no Music plays and nothing moves without drifting , into a Memory Busy Apartment
Busy apartment, no room for grieving
Sink full of dishes and no trouble believing, that you are leaving
Mid-sentence tremors, mind at its weakest
One way of shaking off the thoughts that it sleeps with

I’ve never been much of a patriot—even if I am deeply tied to this country.
I mean, seriously, I have never heard a more powerful or heartbreaking anthem than this one.

Man, since we’re talking about deep poetry—I honestly can't help but tear up over these two examples. Both by Arsenov, both from that genius double-threat Homo Volans.

A dedication found on the CD remaster of a much older, yet absolutely stellar album:

In various interviews, Joni Mitchell offered similar praise and dedications to this specific "musician." Anyone know who she’s talking about? 😁

Names can be tricky—so we’re gonna try using a song instead.
Alright, your turn—who do you think this track is for?😁

Nothing works without those '70-'74 years, apparently. This album up top predates that era.
Let's just leave it at that. It was never much of a mystery—just a persona. The sound and the lyrics are what endure.

It’s a trip—two of Cohen's experts told me that Joan of Arc is actually Joni Mitchell. It doesn't have to be fact, but I seriously doubt they're just talking about Joan of Arc.
OT: Cohen again—this time with New skin for The Old Ceremony, which I think is great even if people overlook it (classic '70-'74 vibes😁... anyway)

Jason Mendoza said:The lyrics honestly feel like something Waits would write.
That’s such a lovely compliment!
I think I remember hearing some theory during a trivia night—something about how Joan of Arc was actually meant for Nica, since she was pretty indifferent to him and even poked fun at him in public 😁
There’s here a bit of info, and on this blog it’s been quite thoroughly researched. I’m no expert, though—it's just one of those things that stuck in my head, probably just one of many theories. It feels more likely that she represents more women than just Ivana.

It’s easy enough—I just can't wrap my head around how she could be with Dylan instead of Cohen, especially since you said she used to mock him. Maybe it's because he was always such a shy, gentle soul—basically everything Dylan never was.
OT: honestly, few songs even come close to this one
Visions of Johann ajmo
Alright, let's settle this—who is it actually about?😁
